📢 I'm excited to announce the publication of my latest research article, "How Did Corruption Enable the Taliban to Gain Control in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 ?" in iReMMO's Confluence Mediteranee. ✔️ I would like to express my gratitude to my co-author, Nima ZAHIR, for his valuable contributions. ✔️ Our work delves into how systemic corruption eroded the "Paradoxical Trinity of Clausewitz" - people, government, and the military - over two decades, ultimately leading to the fall of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. ✔️ This case offers crucial lessons for fragile and developing states to help avoid similar outcomes. #Afghanistan #Corruption #Taliban #Security #IR #iRemmo

Unless the world leaders tackle corruption head on , the 2030 Agenda for the SDGs will remain a distant dream. There is need for commitment, robust domestic preventive measures and just and fair POC recovery and asset sharing.

UN and UNRWA Corruption Why should it be considered "Courageous" to speak truth to authority, has the UN obtained an elitist monopoly on the process of justice, by silencing the voice of Israel operates a policy of double-standards. The UN has been manipulated by Hamas, a proscribed terrorist regime, into becoming a political front for the Genocidal policies of Hamas, whilst flagrantly acting in violation of international law by using the civilian population of Gaza for this purpose. By blaming Israel for the deaths in Gaza, provides Hamas with legal immunity to use these tactics for the benefit of political reward. This gives the signal to every terrorist regime in the world that CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY bring rich rewards, will all be moving to Qatar as the centre of operations, with the innocent victims of atrocities paying the price. 📣 UK Imposes Sanctions on Ugandan Politicians for Corruption, Targeting Speaker of Parliament 📜 On April 30, 2024, the UK imposed sanctions on Ugandan politicians, including the Speaker of Parliament, for corruption charges related to stealing from vulnerable communities. This marks the first use of the Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions regime against corruption in Uganda. 📝 Former ministers Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu diverted resources meant for Uganda's poorest regions, Karamoja, for personal gain. Speaker Anita Annet Among benefitted from the proceeds. ✅ The sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes. The UK aims to combat global corruption, targeting individuals involved in serious corruption cases worldwide. Over 60% of Karamoja residents live in poverty, suffering from drought and insecurity. NATO membership decision is POLITICAL The statement "Ukraine to be told it is too corrupt to join NATO" is amusing when considering the corruption levels of other NATO countries. Yes, corruption exists in Ukraine, but its extent and trend are debatable. 📈 What is our benchmark? Is Ukraine more corrupt than Hungary or Turkey, for example? Let’s focus on facts over propaganda. According to the Corruption Perception Index, 🇺🇦 Ukraine was ranked 104th in 2023, an improvement from 116th in 2022, indicating a positive trend. 🇹🇷 In contrast, Turkey dropped significantly to 115th place from 101st in 2022, with a negative trend. Some other: 🇷🇸 Serbia is also ranked 104th in 2023, down from 101st in 2022. 🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina is ranked 108th, down from 110th in 2022 with a generally negative trend. 🤡 russia plummeted to 141st in 2023, from 137th in 2022. 🇺🇸 Not talking about the USA where the presidential candidate, Trump, was indicted on 34 charges. These are the facts. Regardless of Ukraine's progress and resilience over the years, "corruption" will remain a convenient label for Western inaction. Be bold, be strong. It is not Ukraine’s corruption you fear but russia. #StandWithUkraine

The US warns of potential sanctions on dealings with Iran after India signs a 10-year contract on Chabahar Port. "The World Economic Forum estimates that developing countries lose $1.26 trillion a year, and that the EU alone suffers economic losses of $132 billion per year from corruption. But in their recent APSR article, Meierrieks and Auer demonstrate that corruption is not only costly, but also deadly. Corruption—by depriving citizens of public goods and hampering counterterrorism efforts—leads to more instances of terrorism. When policymakers attempt to improve peace or address poor political accountability worldwide, they must therefore consider corruption and terrorism together." As reported I think that corruption leads to worse than terrorism: it jeopardizes national, regional, and international peace and security! https://lnkd.in/dspbnHgH

🚫 While anti-corruption sanctions may not always grab the headlines, they are significant because they are pivotal in combating serious corruption globally. 💡 Let's look at a recent example. 🇬🇧 At the end of April, the UK Government added three Ugandan politicians to the UK sanctions list under its Global Anti-Corruption regime. 🇺🇬 The UK government emphasized that the region in Uganda where two of the politicians are from, Karamoja, 60% of people live in poverty, and many suffer from the devastating impacts of drought and insecurity. ⚖️ It's always important to remember that performing sanctions screening and doing it effectively is not just about compliance box-ticking. 🌎 It's also about contributing to the global fight against serious crimes such as corruption. #Sanctions #AntiCorruptionSanctions #SanctionsScreening #Corruption
