Day 270 - Week 39 2024 . Driver Inc. is Hurting Canada's Trucking Industry – It's Time for Action ! it’s alarming to see how the Driver Inc. scheme continues to exploit drivers, erode labor standards, and cost Canadian taxpayers over $1 billion annually...(Toronto Star Artice)....2023... For over 5 years, the federal government has promised to tackle this issue, but so far, Real action is lacking.. Driver Inc. isn’t just a tax scam – it's creating an uneven playing field that undercuts compliant companies and undermines worker protections... Truck drivers deserve fair pay, access to WSIB, paid sick leave, and proper benefits. But under this illegal model, many are left without these critical protections. Meanwhile, tax dollars that should be funding our roads, healthcare, and public services are siphoned into the underground economy. It’s time for Canada to step up and **Abolish Driver Inc.** and protect the rights of our hardworking drivers. We need nationwide enforcement and stronger regulatory action, not just pilot programs. Our drivers keep our economy moving—it's time we stand up for them. #DriverInc #TruckDrivers #LaborRights #FairPay #WSIB #CanadianEconomy #TaxFraud #TruckingIndustry #CRA
All those drivers who are avoiding taxes, WISB payments, CPP payments, etc..., are now asking for Government help because their employers are taking advantage of them. Something has to give!
Yudi our Federal Government could eliminate Driver Inc. In a week if they wanted to. Fact is they don't want to. It is the same fleets with the poor safety & compliance records that encourage drivers to sign up. Did you know WCB has made benefits available to Driver Inc. Drivers? I said the rest of the industry should adopt Driver Inc and then see how fast the government will react. Keep up the good fight. Thanks, Roy
I have educated myself this morning on Driver Inc: https://trucking.mb.ca/industry/driver-inc/ I was not aware of this issue and what is so surprising to me, is that the federal government is aware of the 1 billion dollar yearly revenue loss and did not intervene yet. I was forced to incorporate when I was an IT consultant in the 90s. But, we cannot compare the IT industry with Transportion. I guess a coalition of transportation companies is now needed to pressure the feds of intervening before it is too late.
...but what if the driver wants the Driver Inc model? Drivers paid under this model only become victims when they don't get what they want.
The only way to stop Driver Inc Yudi Persaud is to stop relying on government. The buffoons in Ottawa have no interest in halting the gig economy. The industry needs to self police by supporting mandatory driver Red Seal. It’s the only path forward!!
Drivers inc drivers and owners are voters and good party supporters no appetite to fix it and piss off voters
If the trucking company would DEMAND that the ‘contractor’ provide proof of WCB and CRA compliance as a prerequisite to hiring, the dance would be different. There are,I believe, 7 criteria to be deemed a ‘contractor’ ( driver inc) under CRA rulings. All of the ‘wannabe’s’ should have to sign off on a document that should be required before hiring. Another downside, as I understand this is if or when the ‘driver inc’ does not pay their taxes- the ‘employer’ becomes liable for the tax(?)
Asking an unethical government to create and enforce ethical policies. What a world we’re in.
There is corruption in the way Tax is spent. First we need to fix the corruption on tax spending. With covid vaccine app that was made with Tax money and other fraudulent expenses given to organization that paid the prime ministers family and the PM taking 100 vacation while an average driver cannot, and other expenses that can't be explained by politicians. We should be contributing in Tax meanwhile fight infront of gouv representative to spend responsibily
