From November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day), individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide unite under this year’s theme: "Towards 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNITE to End Violence Against Women." Between January and the end of May 2024, 90.8% of survivors for whom MSF provided care in Benue State reported having been raped. - Violence against women costs economies billions annually in lost productivity and healthcare expenses. - Harmful practices like child marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), and intimate partner violence hinder progress toward gender equality. What can we do? Raise Awareness: Use the color orange as a symbol of hope and a brighter future. Advocate for Change: Support policies and laws that protect women and girls. Engage Communities: Challenge harmful norms and empower survivors. Collaborate for Impact: Governments, civil society, the private sector, and individuals must join forces to drive sustainable action. 📣 The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women reminds us of the urgent need to address gender inequality. 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. In Türkiye, over 350 women were murdered, mostly by intimate partners, in just the first 10 months of 2024. During crises, these risks rise even higher, leaving women and girls especially vulnerable to violence and exploitation. At Turkey Mozaik Foundation, we prioritise gender equality in all our grant programs. We partner with organisations that empower women's voices and ensure they have equal access to safety, resources, and opportunities for recovery. We stand united with every woman, organisation, and movement fighting for a world free from violence and inequality. Together, we can create a world where women and girls live free from fear. 💜💪 #EndViolence #ActNow #NoExcuse #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #ViolenceAgainstWomen #StopViolenceAgainstWomen #GenderEquality #WomensRights #WomenSupportingWomen #OrangeTheWorld

Gender-based violence is a pervasive issue that affects individuals and communities around the world. It is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted approach to address. While governments and international organizations have a critical role to play in combating gender-based violence, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) also contribute significantly to this effort. NGOs are often at the forefront of providing essential services to survivors of gender-based violence, including counseling, legal assistance, and medical care. They also play a crucial role in advocating for policy changes that can help prevent gender-based violence and ensure that survivors receive the support they need. One of the key strengths of NGOs is their ability to be nimble and responsive to the unique needs of the communities they serve. They can tailor their programs and services to address the specific cultural, economic, and social factors that contribute to gender-based violence in a given context. NGOs also play a critical role in raising awareness about gender-based violence and challenging harmful gender stereotypes and norms. Through education and advocacy efforts, NGOs can help shift attitudes and behaviors that contribute to gender-based violence and promote gender equality. Moreover, NGOs can provide a safe space for survivors to share their experiences and connect with others who have faced similar challenges. By building supportive communities, NGOs can help survivors heal and rebuild their lives. It's important to recognize the vital contribution of NGOs in the fight against gender-based violence. Their work is often underfunded and under-resourced, yet they continue to make a significant impact in the lives of survivors and their communities. As we mark this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, let us honor the contributions of NGOs and commit to supporting their work. Together, we can create a world free from gender-based violence and promote gender equality for all. #GBV #NGOS #EndViolence #GenderEquality #IWD2023
