🏗 The building sector currently contributes 21% of global greenhouse gas emissions. 🏭 France and Morocco, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), launched the #BuildingsBreakthroughInitiative at COP28 to accelerate the transition towards near-zero emissions and climate-resilient buildings by the year 2030. As part of the Buildings Breakthrough, an annual assessment of global progress in the sector will be conducted. The UNEP/GlobalABC secretariat will lead this assessment in collaboration with partners such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the High-Level Climate Champions, closely corresponding to the UNEP/GlobalABC annual Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction. We have high ethical standards and have invested a lot in building awareness and capability to manage governance risks in our own operations. We have also contributed to wider sector initiatives on this topic over the years 🤝📈   It is therefore good to see that one of our own can contribute to broader sector thinking on the topic. This week a paper was launched at NY climate Week that Maja de Vibe has independently written together with the Executive Director of EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative). She says the following about the paper:   “The paper draws on input from ten renewable energy companies in Europe on governance risks facing the sector that could undermine the objective of a just transition. It reflects on the lessons that can be learnt from the extractives sector. It also presents suggestions for how the sector could step up its collective effort to tackle these risks which we hope can contribute to further discussion.” #energytransition #governance #justtransition #NYClimateweek
