When it comes to #agrifood value chains, integrating #sustainability into business plans is a strategic imperative that cannot be ignored. Going beyond carbon and acting on nature loss is key. Two complementary publications from Metabolic and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development show how businesses can incorporate a strategy for nature solutions. It is best designed and implemented with materiality at its core (top-down), yet it should be approached with deep consideration of local context (bottom-up) in order to drive coordinated actions and outcomes toward a nature-positive world. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eu8ithv4 #WBCSDRoadmaps | Matt Inbusch | Pauline Peek

I co-led a Nature metrics breakout session yesterday at the #TSCSummit24 Ag Metrics Workshop with Challey Comer of TNC. Our group of retailers, CPGs, NGOs, metrics orgs and certifiers had a productive and insightful discussion around emerging metrics, alignment and the need to simplify and collaborate across the value chain. It's been fun seeing so many familiar faces - looking forward to the full Summit today!! #nature #biodiversity #metrics #sustainableagriculture #sustainability #regenerativeagriculture

It's great that Field to Market’s newest Fieldprint Platform update includes Environmental Defense Fund's nitrogen balance model, allowing companies to better assess the risk of nitrogen losses from excess fertilizer in the croplands they source from.
Fieldprint Platform 4.2 is now available! With this update, farmers and others in the agricultural value chain can now analyze sustainability on six pulse crops and access an additional tool to measure the risk of nitrogen loss to the environment using the Environmental Defense Fund's N Balance Model. These new features will enable the more than 50 member-led projects registered in the Fieldprint Platform to further advance sustainability efforts within their supply chains. Delighted to see our nitrogen balance model in the new Field to Market Fieldprint Platform! Nitrogen (N) is essential for croplands, but in excess can cause negative environmental and health impacts. EDF’s innovative N balance tool can help, optimizing nitrogen fertilizer management. Now included in the Fieldprint Platform, nearly 200 industry stakeholders across the commodity crop production system and many top Fortune 500 companies—such as PepsiCo, Mondelēz International and Archer Daniels Midland—will have access to the tool to help assess the risk of nitrogen losses within their sustainability projects. To have our science integrated into this platform is a BIG win for planet, people and businesses! 🌎 Improving nitrogen management on cropland can deliver 84% of the annual nitrous oxide emissions reductions needed by 2030 to stabilize the climate and provide economic benefits to secure the long-term viability of farming. Be sure to explore the Fieldprint Platform and go deeper with EDF’s N Balance Implementation Guide: https://lnkd.in/eu46r2Me

We don't meet our sustainability goals or help our customers achieve theirs alone. We collaborate with organizations like Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) and Texas A&M University to study real farm data to better understand the connection between high health herds and farm sustainability. Together, we're strengthening the tools available to farmers that offer additional insights to evaluate their herd health and impact on their operations’ environmental goals for a better future for all. As #ClimateWeekNYC is winding down, we know our collaborative work must continue. Learn more in our Sustainability Report: https://lnkd.in/d_D2gE6s
