3G Network Shutdown! Today, I want to express my gratitude to Telstra management for entrusting me and my 3G Exit mission team with the monumental task of enabling the 3G network shutdown in Australia, a project that has spanned over four years. As Telstra’s 3G Network approaches its sunset tonight, November 3rd, 2024, we will wake up on the morning of November 4th without seeing 3G signal bars on our mobiles. The Wireless Access Network 3G Exit Mission team faced the challenge of defining, matching, measuring, and validating our 4G network’s coverage and service equivalence with the 3G Network across thousands of mobile sites. Summarizing the planning and execution of this complex body of work that achieved 3G/4G coverage equivalency is difficult, but here is a brief overview: Our goal was to ensure that each mobile network site’s customer service experience would be maintained or improved post-3G shutdown. We followed a methodology aligned with global telecom industry standards and practices, which included: Fundamental Network Design: Ensuring a funded project or solution was in place for any 3G/4G infrastructure differences at the site level. Emulating 3G Shutdown Test: Simulating the 3G shutdown by deactivating the mobility of devices from 4G to 3G. This was a coverage equivalence litmus test to identify opportunities for optimization. Observability & Analytics: Utilizing various toolsets, including targeted field surveys and crowd-sourced data analytics. These steps enabled the 3G Exit Team to formally sign off on 540 Local Government Areas, facilitating successful 3G Exit readiness communications to customers. Lastly, I would like to personally thank the leadership team (past and current) for their vision and guidance throughout this journey. Also the 3G Exit mission team. Dormant (being shutdown), Legacy (carries most traffic), Emerging (stealing spectrum from dormant)

The edge is different! Why is unreliable connectivity a critical edge issue? While data centers might experience brief data packet loss, edge devices could face disconnections lasting minutes, hours, or even days due to their remote locations. Besides disruptions to critical processes, intermittent connectivity requires strong local security measures for isolated devices that cannot communicate with a central management system. It is essential that they maintain autonomy in their operations. ZEDEDA solves the problems of operating edge assets in air-gapped environments #PoweringTheEdge #edgeorchestration

How exciting! With so much focus in the Telecommunications Industry on 5G Wireless over the last few years, a huge step forward in standardization has been realized. The Broadband Forum's latest upgrades are changing how we connect to the internet by bringing together wireless and wireline networks in a simpler, more unified way that works with different providers. This means companies can offer better service while saving money on operations. Manuel Paul from Deutsche Telekom says this is great for fixed and mobile providers, ensuring everyone gets an excellent experience no matter how they connect. Working with 3GPP, as Christele Bouchat from Nokia mentions, ensures everything fits together smoothly, making internet connections better for all of us. Wireless is the future. There is no stopping it.
