United for Equality — WEPs signatories meet at the United Nations! 🌍 At the “Forward Faster: Why Collective Action Matters” Leadership Summit during UNGA79 on the 25th of September 2024, leaders from the watch and jewelry industry came together to champion gender equality. Brands like Cartier, CHANEL, Gucci and Pandora were spotlighted and shared how they are advancing on gender equality. At the Leadership Summit, Women’s Empowerment Principles launched Emerging Practices: Advancing Gender Equality in the Watch & Jewelry Industry, a collection of case studies showcasing how 14 companies are accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and community. 🌐 With the launch of a brand-new case study booklet, UN Women and the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 aim to showcase the transformative power companies can wield in accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment across the workplace, marketplace, and community. The 14 participating companies range from globally recognized brands to new start-ups, from tens of thousands of employees to hundreds. They trade in a spectrum of precious metals and gems, and cater to customers at all levels of purchasing power. The case studies cover their operations at headquarters as well as in labs, factories and retail stores in five regions: Africa, the Arab States, Asia, Europe and North America. Each case singles out one of the WEPs, although all companies are committed to all seven principles. 📢 Promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment within the industry’s supply chain is essential to contribute to sustainable development and to foster an ecosystem of socially responsible businesses, which is the foundation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) established in 2010. The publication shares some common findings and provides a path to action >> https://lnkd.in/gg4qz2wY #WEPs #GenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment

Happy International Women’s Day on behalf of the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030. At the core of Pillar 3 – Fostering Inclusivity, lies the Women’s Empowerment Principles, providing a foundation that propels our collective commitment towards gender equality. At present only 15% of the indicators of the fifth Sustainable Development Goal are on track to meet the 2030 targets, and the latest forecasts estimate that on our current track, it will take another 300 years to reach full gender equality. Today, 41 Companies of WJI 2030 are WEPs signatories. We realize that some companies are advanced, while others are evolving. It is the journey that matters, and the time is now to take action. That’s why we ask you to sign and promote the Women’s Empowerment Principles today and encourage your networks and communities to take action. We are here to support you in this journey. WJI 2030 in collaboration with the UN Women WEPs Team is organizing a WEPs Roadshow to activate and accelerate the journey. Gender Equality is an important topic for any industry, but especially for the watch & jewellery industry. Gender bias is not just a human rights issue; but also a tremendous waste of the world’s human potential. Does the fashion industry fail on gender equality? Today, on the 8th of March many countries worldwide celebrate International Women's day to acknowledge the achievements of women but also put a spotlight on areas in which women are still disadvantaged. There are many different gaps between the genders that need to be closed, but what about the fashion industry? Let’s look at some numbers: 👚 Clothes, worldwide, are mainly made by women. About 80% of garment makers are women. But not all of them work under good circumstances. 71% of those stuck in slavery are women, garments being the 2nd highest at risk product category. 👩🎓 Over 85% of the people graduating from top fashion schools are women. Still only around 14% of the top 50 fashion brands are run by women. 🚀 There are fewer CEOs in fashion as there are in Aerospace or Finance. 💴 So while fashion is often considered a female topic and women spending 226% more on fashion than their counterparts, the industry remains male dominated. But there is hope 💚 There is a rising number of customers, among both genders, who think fashion brands should be more aware of gender equality and should take actions. Also fashion brands like are taking first steps toward gender equality. Kering for example put gender equality in it‘s three-pillar sustainability plan for 2025. For us, as a female founded and led company, gender equality was one of our cornerstones, when we started to build our company. We believe that gender equality can be a key driver of success and is not only a matter of fairness and social justice. #internationalwomensday #femalefounder #fashionstartup

Last week at the UN General Assembly, I had the privilege of joining the Leadership Summit by the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, in collaboration with UN Women, the United Nations Global Compact, and the Belgium Mission To The UN. We explored how our industry is advancing gender equality, and it was an honor to share my perspective. It’s disheartening that in 2024, we must still advocate for the importance of gender equality. The urgency for action is clear—declarations are not enough. We need concrete steps and measurable progress, as emphasized by the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, co-founded by Kering and led by Marie-Claire Daveu. At Gucci, we are committed to leading meaningful change across the luxury industry and our supply chain. Being part of this initiative reflects our dedication to building a sustainable and equitable future. To make real progress, men must actively contribute, and women must have equal representation at all levels. The recently adopted UN Pact for the Future underscores gender equality as essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Together with industry leaders, we identified actions to accelerate this progress. My thanks to the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 , Executive Director Iris Maria Alexis Van der Veken, UN Women, United Nations Global Compact , and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. In honor of International Women's Day, I will be sharing a compelling series of posts that will be unveiled over the next few days, spotlighting the remarkable stories of women from Majid Al Futtaim, Global Solutions. Today, I want to highlight the profound impact of allyship in promoting gender equality. Today, I want to spotlight @Hessa Alrazouqi, a remarkable Emirati Senior Manager at Global Solutions, who champions gender equality and the inclusion of Emirati women. Her leadership inspires us all and drives our organization toward a more diverse and equitable future. Research shows that diverse teams bring tangible benefits to organizations, with those in the top quartile for gender diversity having a 25% higher likelihood of financial outperformance. By embracing diverse perspectives, we unlock innovation and create a competitive advantage for Global Solutions. Let's be allies for gender equality, challenge bias, and support women’s leadership. Together, we can foster a culture of inclusion that uplifts and empowers women at every level. Join us in celebrating International Women's Day and stay tuned for more posts in our series on women’s empowerment. International Women's Day recognizes women's rights and the ongoing fight for gender equality. Meet Rebecca Watkins, our Sustainability Manager at Gina Tricot, as she shares our journey in using our influence to support women. Hi Rebecca! Could you please share more about your role at Gina Tricot? -My role as Sustainability Manager is to lead the work of moving the entire company in a more sustainable direction. It includes working with the products we sell, production, but also for instance logistics and human resources. How does Gina Tricot use its influence to advocate for gender equality? -In general, you can say that we use our platform to raise awareness. We know that we reach many women and, in every aspect, we want to be a positive force in terms of gender equality. Whether it's our customers, employees, or women working in production. How do you ensure that your sustainability initiatives benefit women at every level? -We prioritize maintaining strong relationships with our suppliers, regularly visiting them along with third parties to ensure our efforts in the supply chain make a real positive difference. Through partnerships with global organizations like UNICEF, we extend our reach to local communities and contribute to influencing governmental policies that support women at work. How does your role as Sustainability Manager contribute to these efforts? -My role is to set the plan and projects as well as choose partners to collaborate with that lead to the positive impact we desire. I also try to inspire and coordinate the corporate work with my colleagues. It’s all about teamwork!

❗️We achieved 50/50 Gender parity in Our Rubi Factory this month ❗️ During the week of International Women’s Day, I am thrilled to share that our RUBI factory is now gender balanced accross our blue and white color colleagues. This achievement is more than a statistic; it's a testament to our belief in creating a workspace where talent thrives, irrespective of gender. Its a proof that we are doing, not trying! And of out commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Our journey has been both challenging and rewarding, marking a significant step forward in not just our corporate culture, but in setting a standard for the industry. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to every operations team member for their dedication and to factory director Victoria Ibáñez and Miriam Frances Pagés and Eduard Reimondez and their teams for making gender equality a top priority. Your commitment to fostering an inclusive environment has not only enhanced our innovation and productivity but has also made us a better, stronger company. As we celebrate this milestone, let's remember that the journey towards gender equality doesn't end here. It remains an ongoing process, one that requires continuous effort, reflection and action. To other organizations striving for gender balance, particularly in the operations space, let this be a testament to the fact that change is possible, and it starts with us. Here's to breaking barriers, together. To the next factory to achieve this result! #GenderEquality #Inclusion #DiversityInTech #Empowerment #Leadership #authenticity #iwd2024
