China Mobile squeezes more ARPU from 5G subscribers China’s operators have enjoyed some success in raising ARPUs on the back of their 5G rollouts, meanwhile subscriber growth is winding down towards saturation. The latest financial results from the big three show 5G numbers tapering off, after a sustained growth period that has endured since the rollout began at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The trend shows up well for China Mobile, the world’s largest MNO by most metrics, except now for data carried. Over the last year, ending March 31st 2024, China Mobile added 125 million 5G subscribers (defined as those with a 5G package) although a substantial proportion do not have a 5G phone – a curiosity that we intend to investigate. But over the last three months, the rise has slowed to just 4.6 million, and actually dipped by 2 million from February to March, ending at 799 million, according to the company’s monthly customer data report. #5G #mobilenetwork #data

China Mobile's seemingly unstoppable 5G growth shows signs of leveling off. With a huge customer base of 996 million, the slowdown is evident with only a 4.6 million increase this quarter. Their 5G subscriber count has dipped slightly, from 801 million to just shy of 799 million in March, sparking discussions on whether a peak has been reached. Yet, active 5G users are indeed rising, now at 488 million. The company keeps pushing forward, notably growing its fixed broadband subscribers to over 305 million, and staying financially robust with a 5.2% revenue increase. As China Mobile pivots towards digital transformation, we're left to wonder: is this a peak for their 5G, or merely a pause in an ongoing expansion, especially against China Telecom's 10 million subscriber increase this quarter? #ChinaMobile #5GTechnology #TelecomGrowth

This Initiative looks a very strategic choice of Telecom Mobile Operator here in Bangladesh to test the market before 5G mobile broadband introduction This will be a testimony of Monetization strategies for 5G mobile broadband business in near future. This Speed based pricing options will help them to differentiate the consumer segment include higher performance, differentiated offerings. Speed-based pricing for mobile has the potential to improve ARPU and, by extension, mobile operator revenue growth. This Speed-based tariffs provide opportunities to better monetise the higher throughputs available with 5G networks, offering better alignment of data traffic with ARPU growth for mobile operators. Markets with a greater number of speed-based tariffs have experienced faster ARPU growth. Hopefully we will see similar trend of our Operators.

It starts with "Yes" | Divisional CFO | Senior Commercial Director | Infrastructure Investments for our world-class network
Just like dial-up internet and VHS, technology gets left behind when the world moves forward, this is what’s happening to 3G in Australia. From September, Optus is switching off 3G and repurposing it to boost the reliability, capacity, and speed of our 4G network and rollout 5G to even more Australians. The types of Optus devices impacted by the 3G shutdown may not just be handsets but also data-only devices such as tablets and dongles. This will include customers who are still reliant on 3G only devices and also those who may be using a 4G device that may rely on the 3G network. In some circumstances, a device will be on the 4G network but uses 3G for emergency calls, this includes devices purchased overseas that aren’t compatible with Australian 4G technology. We are reaching out to all our customers with this important message to upgrade their impacted device - contact us to discuss options. Additional support is also being provided to vulnerable customers to help keep them connected. Customers can check if their device is impacted by texting '3' to '3498' (mobile devices only, please text from the device you are concerned about). If you receive a message from Optus and are impacted by the 3G Shutdown, call 1300 219 070 or visit your local Optus retail outlet to discuss options. If I can offer any help, I look forward to connecting.

We have another important message for customers impacted by the Optus 3G switch off who need to replace their handsets to remain connected. From today, Optus prepaid customers with an impacted device will begin hearing a Recorded Voice Announcement (RVA) message about the 3G switch off when they make their first phone call of the day, followed by an SMS when they hang up. The message to Optus prepaid customers will say: “This is an important announcement. This phone will be impacted when the Optus 3G network is switched off from September. You will need a compatible phone to stay connected. Please connect with your service provider today. You can disregard this message if you’ve recently upgraded your device.” We will be switching off our 3G technology from September and repurposing it to boost the capacity, speed, and reliability of our 4G network and rollout 5G to even more Australians. Optus is already sending SMS, emails and letters to impacted customers, so please, if you receive one of these messages, contact us to discuss your options. Any Optus customer can check if their handset is impacted by texting '3' to '3498' (mobile handset only, please text from the handset you are concerned about). For more info on the 3G switch off, visit www.optus.com.au/3g
