While SMEs aren’t yet required to report on sustainability, many face demands from larger clients covered by CSRD. Gustaf Svensson, Head of Bespoke Services at Atmoz, shares a few insights on how to report on sustainability in an easy and more effective way. In an article published by our partner Srf konsulterna, Gustaf explains how accounting consultants can benefit from standardised solutions like the VSME or NSRS to streamline reporting, save time, and maintain high quality. From automated tools to strategic advantages, sustainability reporting isn’t just about compliance – it’s also about staying competitive in an increasingly eco-conscious market. Does your organization account for externalities? Continuing on the theme of externalities from my previous post… According to Unerman, et al., “potential drivers that may lead to externalities being internalized include “increasing regulatory or legal action, market forces and changing operating environments, new actions by and relationships with external stakeholders, plus an increasing drive for transparency, or voluntary action by businesses because they recognize the significance of transparency to future success.” (link below) An area in the medical device industry where this seems salient is medical device sterilization, given the recent changes to regulatory requirements for sterilization facilities. I wonder how many conversations are ongoing across the industry about whether and how to internalize what were previously considered externalities? In the sustainability world, new and changing requirements for companies to report their impact on the environment (ex. CSRD) are also changing how companies evaluate externalities. What other examples do you have to share? https://lnkd.in/d9xHA_J8

SustainCERT has developed a Dual Factor Credibility Framework to address common challenges in Scope 3 accounting and reporting 💡 The framework allows companies to: 1) verify mitigation outcomes, making sure emission reductions and removals are real and accurate 2) unitize, transfer, credibly claim and report emission reductions in a Scope 3 inventory, allowing companies to share costs of interventions with value chain partners ✅ The framework helps address challenges to reducing Scope 3 emissions, including difficulties in tracking and allocating emission reductions across various goods and actors in the value chains, the risk of double counting, and adjusting for different accounting methodologies to accurately claim and report mitigation outcomes in an inventory. Put together, this approach can help your company decarbonize your value chain, meet Scope 3 targets, and collaborate with partners. Read our new blog to learn more and check back in for our detailed paper next week: https://lnkd.in/ebmdY4rK #scope3 #verification #ghgemissions

The Carbon Accounting Alliance (CCA) has published a ‘Love Letter’ to companies from Scope 3 Solutions Providers with their guidance on how companies can best be supported. As a Founding Member of the CCA, notch is committed to drive the maximum value possible. notch is fully aligned with all aspects of supporting companies as they tackle Scope 3 emissions. Love letter: 2: Many platforms can feel like they have very similar functionality. What is often just as important is the credibility of the underlying methodology that the tech enables and the philosophy. You may also need different tools for different jobs. Scope 3 requires many sources of information and decisions to take. Knitting these solutions together is common and should be considered from the start. notch is built on the principles of the GHG Protocol and our core mindset is all about supporting efficient, accurate emissions reporting. That means supporting our users to collect accurate, activity based data. Working with them on a dedicated ‘ data improvement plan’ and engaging stakeholders to support data quality. “We want to be as transparent as possible, so it was important that we recorded our actual data rather than spend data.” David Griggs, Technical Director (www.crispmalt.com) https://lnkd.in/eVaSKPY9 #makeyourmark

Working capital with a purpose means... ... to improve companies for the betterment of society. Robust governance is a key component of any company's ESG journey. This includes establishing processes and policies that will allow companies to thrive together with their supply chain. Most companies have significant amounts of cash tied up in trade working capital. This can be released to fund future growth and investments. Such a transformation, however, should never be a zero-sum game to the detriment of supply chain partners. Rather, it should be an opportunity to ensure that companies, their customers and their suppliers are well-positioned to keep growing together. Working capital legislation and reporting requirements around the world continue to evolve and are driving positive change, increasing fairness and transparency in business arrangements, particularly with regards to smaller supplier treatment. We help companies to optimize their working capital management in the right way, freeing up liquidity whilst improving their operational efficiency, complying with evolving legislation and devising policies that they can be proud of. Feel free to have a look at our website to learn more about working capital management and how KPMG Nederland is helping Dutch organizations to thrive together with their ecosystem. You can also contact Evgenia Bodaar-Molotova, Jordi Wardenburg, Davy Hendriks or me to discuss this in more detail.
