What's going on with the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)?💭 The law aims to curb deforestation and enforce stricter supply chain due diligence. But lately it's been a whirlwind of debates, delays, and decisions. Here are the updates you need to know! ✔️ Delay confirmed: The regulation will now take effect on 30 December 2025, giving businesses an extra year to prepare. ✔️ "No risk" category rejected: Proposals to reduce traceability requirements for low-deforestation-risk areas were opposed by member states and the Commission—and ultimately dropped. ✔️ Regulation intact: Despite efforts to weaken it, the regulation's core provisions remain unchanged, protecting due diligence obligations for products made from cattle, wood, cocoa, soy, palm oil, coffee, rubber, and some of their derived products. ✔️ Simplification on the horizon: The Commission has agreed to explore reducing the regulatory burden when the law is reviewed in 2028. So, what's next? The final text still needs approval by the EU Parliament and Member States before becoming law. This should happen before end of December.
