The average woman loses 30-40 mL of blood per cycle, with some experiencing heavier flows of up to 60 mL or more. Tampons and pads typically hold 5-10 mL. These facts have significant implications for women's health, including: - Menstrual equity and access to products - Diagnosing and treating heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) - Reducing stigma around periods Dr. Steven Palter sheds light on these essential topics. Day 3 of #WomensHealthWeek ! We're tackling taboos and challenging the uncomfortable. 'Taboo' topics often hinder open communication, especially in women's health issues like menstruation and menopause. These taboos, compounded by medical jargon and misunderstandings, can prevent women from fully participating in shared decision-making with their doctors. By supporting open, honest and vulnerable conversations, we’re spreading the word that shame and stigma have no place in health care. #Did you know that men often pass away nearly five years before women do? Men's reluctance to visit the doctor is one factor, according to menshealthmonth.org. Indeed, research indicates that women visit the doctor twice as frequently as males. males's Health Network further points out that several conditions are more common in males and that patients and their doctors should monitor these conditions through routine visits. Therefore, Men's Health Month aims to raise awareness of avoidable health issues and promote early disease identification and treatment in both men and boys. #nationalmenshealthmonth🚹🚹

⏱️ Time is of the essence, especially when it comes to health emergencies. But women experiencing chest pain wait 11 minutes longer to receive care in the emergency department compared to men with the same symptoms. #NationalStressAwarenessMonth This gender gap in health care is unacceptable. 4dIf it affects your day to day life then no it's not normal! Years ago I put in an official complaint after I got told that period pain supposedly was normal but not for me it wasn't and I received an apology off them for fobbing me off! Thankfully things sorted themselves out but no thanks to them! A colleague had told me how I was right to have made an official complaint over that!
