🚨 Web Accessibility Matters 🚨 A recent lawsuit underscores the importance of key accessibility features like "Skip to Content" and role="main" tags for ADA compliance. These essential tools ensure blind and visually impaired users can easily navigate websites using screen readers. Companies must prioritize web accessibility to provide an inclusive experience for all users—and to avoid legal challenges. If you are going to claim you "Comply with ADA law and conform with WCAG 2.1 & 2.2 guidelines at every step of your web accessibility journey." or you say you "offers solutions, services, and guidance for every stage of your accessibility journey." then do it, Don't blatantly lie. Also, make sure your stuff is accessible because if it isn't, then you're a snake oil salesperson of the worst kind. EDIT: The accessibility icon is used for an overlay from an overlay company.

🔍 New Video Alert: Web Accessibility Audit Using NVDA Screen Reader 🎥 I'm excited to share my latest video where I conducted a comprehensive web accessibility audit of a website using the NVDA screen reader. 🌐🔍 In this video I show how to install a screen reader NVDA, walk through the site Tottillo using NVDA to identify accessibility issues, highlight common mistakes that can hinder user experience for individuals relying on screen readers and provide actionable solutions to improve accessibility and ensure compliance with web standards. Web accessibility is crucial for creating an inclusive online environment where everyone can navigate and interact with digital content seamlessly. Ensuring that websites are accessible not only benefits users with disabilities but also enhances the overall user experience for everyone. Key takeaways from the video: 1. Identifying Accessibility Issues: learn how to spot issues that may not be immediately obvious without using assistive technology. 2. Best Practices for Remediation: get practical tips on how to fix common accessibility problems. 3. Improving User Experience: understand how accessibility improvements can lead to a more user-friendly and engaging website for all visitors. 🌶️ Disclaimer + Hot Take: I'm only sharing these thoughts because this is seemingly not a competitor**. And I say this knowing good and well that I'm biased given I'm the CEO of an accessibility SaaS company (and that our branding and software is beautiful). As a designer by trade I dislike any software being poorly designed — period. Accessibility is a proxy for user experience though, so it's not immune to the same issues that come with any other digital product being designed or coded by individuals who don't understand the fundamentals of the craft. But one of my biggest gripes is when we in the accessibility space give those who doubt its value (or misunderstand how to address it) more reason to believe accessibility makes things worse or is at odds with beauty — simply be not setting a benchmark for what a well designed product is. **We simply don't consider contrast checkers competition given we're no longer a plugin company, but rather a platform to streamline and manage accessibility.

Color blindness can impact website accessibility, creating barriers for users in perceiving low-contrast elements, understanding color-coded information like error messages or chart data, and navigating interfaces reliant on color cues. If your website lacks accommodation for these challenges, it could be non-compliant with ADA laws and fail to meet WCAG guidelines. Not sure if your website is compliant? Prismo can help. Accessibility Tip of the Day 133: Wanna be pedantic about the difference between "accessibility conformance" and "accessibility compliance"? You conform to web standards. You comply with laws. So if you want to be technically correct when speaking about how well a website handles accessibility, you might say that it "conforms with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines" and that it "complies with the ADA and Section 508." #accessibility #a11y #accessibilityTipOfTheDay

Web accessibility can be daunting, especially when there are legal requirements and real consequences for public sector organisations when your website is not compliant, and when there is the risk of excluding some of your target audience. We offer an Accessibility Assessment to review your website and lay it all out on the table in a way you can get your head around, so that we can make a plan to resolve any accessibility violations that have been flagged before your website gets reviewed by the government. California is considering adopting a new law (AB-1757) that adopts Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA as the level of accessibility that websites and mobile apps providing products or services must follow. It also expands liability to third-party developers and gives people with disabilities and businesses the ability to sue web developers for creating websites that do not conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. What could this bill mean for website accessibility? Equal Entry CEO and Ken Nakata of Converge Accessibility chat about it. https://buff.ly/3vERuyS #Accessibility #Law Image: Illustration of state Capitol on water filled with two sailboats and three palm trees around the capital.
