As we begin #WWWeek, we're spotlighting a critical issue: outdated infrastructure causing global water loss, with 8.5 trillion gallons wasted annually. Shockingly, nearly a third of this loss occurs in the US. Meet Michael Bills, Water & Sewer Superintendent for Oak Park, a Chicago suburb renowned for its Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. Michael manages a 105-mile network of pipes, ensuring 1.7 billion gallons of safe water reach 54,000 residents each year. However, Village of Oak Park faced a significant challenge, losing 20% of its water—about 530 Olympic-sized pools—annually due to leaks. To tackle this, Oak Park has set a goal to cut water loss to 10%, meeting Illinois Department of Natural Resources standards. They faced hurdles from aging infrastructure, extreme temperatures, and porous soil, making leaks difficult to detect. Partnering with HWM Global, a Halma plc company, Oak Park worked with FCS to help with installation of our acoustic loggers to detect even the smallest leaks, Michael's team could access a digital map of potential issues and prioritize repairs more effectively. The pilot program uncovered 19 previously undetectable leaks, and with the expanded use of FCS acoustic loggers, 10 more leaks were identified in the first month alone. We are proud to help Oak Park meet their goal! #WWWeek #waterinfrastructure #soundchoice #SaferCleanerHealthier #waterleakdetection #waterindustry

The significant annual loss of 8.5 trillion gallons of water is a cause for concern and urgency. This quantity of water represents a substantial loss and highlights the pressing need for proactive measures to address water conservation and management. The Village of Oak Park joins forces with HWM Global using innovative #acousticleakdetection to detect and prevent leaks. Check out this video highlighting the way Oak Park finds their leaks using Fluid Conservation Systems-FCS technology! #waterindustry #acousticlogger

This begins #WWWeek, and I’m reflecting on the global issue of water loss due to aging infrastructure—leading to a staggering 8.5 trillion gallons of water lost annually. Sadly, nearly a third of this occurs in the United States! Our company had the pleasure of working with Michael Bills, Water & Sewer Superintendent for the Village of Oak Park, a beautiful Chicago suburb known for its Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. Michael manages an extensive 105-mile network of pipes, delivering 1.7 billion gallons of safe water to 54,000 residents each year. However, Oak Park was losing 20% of its water annually—equivalent to about 530 Olympic-sized pools—through leaks. Determined to make a change, Oak Park has set a goal to reduce water loss to 10%, in line with Illinois’ regulations. But as with many communities, they faced challenges from aging infrastructure, tough weather conditions, and tricky soil, making leaks difficult to detect. That’s where HWM Global (part of Halma) and FCS came in. Using acoustic loggers, Michael and his team pinpointed even the smallest leaks on a digital map, helping them prioritize repairs more effectively. Through our pilot program, Oak Park uncovered 19 previously undetected leaks, and after expanding the use of our acoustic leak detection technology across the network, they found 10 more within just a month. They have been amazing partners to work with, and I appreciate their motivation to conserve water! This video says it all! #WWWeek #waterleakdetection #waterloss #waterindustry

When you turn on the tap in your home, what do you think about? For many, it’s inconsequential: they think about whatever they were thinking about before, what they need to do next, or take a moment to breathe. But even before recent storms impacted water access in the U.S. South, millions of people in the U.S. have had to worry about the quality and safety of the water coming out of the faucet, and that’s if they have one at all. Today, alongside RWJF partners at the US Water Alliance, we ask you to imagine a day without water. From drinking to cooking, bathing, and more, our daily habits and needs would drastically change. Many communities experience this reality, and more often than not, they are communities of color. Impact investors have a unique opportunity to strengthen water infrastructure across the nation. Learn about what these strategies look like in this report from the Environmental Policy Innovation Center.

A great new report, called “Water Wars: How Corporations Play the Long Game” tells the story of campaigns in Pennsylvania to prevent the corporate takeover of water resources. It has valuable lessons for New Jersey water and sewer customers. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eQMkD6xi

Today, the Living Well Kent Collaborative team 🌱 hosted Governor Jay Inslee at the LKW Greenhouse to rally Washingtonians to VOTE NO to I-2117. A misleading initiative opposed by firefighters, local small businesses, tech companies, doctors, Tribal Nations, and community members, I-2117 would put an end to protections for our air, water, forests, and farmland, while also causing significant damage to our transportation and road programs. 🏥 I-2117 is deceptive, harmful, and hazardous. It would lead to increased toxic air pollution and wildfires, posing a greater risk for children & seniors who suffer from asthma and heart conditions. As an older sister to a younger brother who is prone to asthma, this is a major concern for me. 🚰 Our state faces a drought emergency and historically low watershed runoff. I-2117 would only make things worse. How? By cutting vital funding for programs that protect and restore lakes, rivers, streams, and salmon. 🚗 It would also devastate Washington's transportation and infrastructure programs by taking away billions in funding, jeopardizing efforts to fix roads and bridges, and reduce traffic congestion. By opposing I-2117, we can mitigate the significant risks of environmental and economic hardship it brings for Washingtonians. As Miss Heyva passionately beacons to her crowd, "VOTE NO."

The Great Lakes region is blessed with an abundance of water. But water quality, affordability, and aging water infrastructure are vulnerabilities that have been ignored for far too long. In https://lnkd.in/eaVHc9ZS
