The Sg Pin Conservation Area in Kinabatangan, Sabah, is vital for Malaysia's conservation efforts due to its rich biodiversity and varied habitats. Stretching across lowland rainforests along the Kinabatangan River, it shelters endangered species like elephants, orangutans, and proboscis monkeys. Diverse ecosystems, including riparian forests and mangrove swamps, support unique plant and animal life. Conservation initiatives, involving government, NGOs, and local communities, prioritize habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, and responsible tourism. Yet, challenges such as deforestation and human-wildlife conflicts persist, highlighting the ongoing need for conservation efforts. The area also appeals to ecotourists, aiding conservation while facilitating research and community involvement. Sustainable practices are essential for safeguarding the Sg Pin Conservation Area and its precious biodiversity for future generations. We are fortunate in Canada that our Government 30 by 30 Conservation plan is a broad based land and water initiative. It is not focused totally on Old Growth Forests - as some seem to have interpreted the plan. Conservation areas will include a mosaic of young forest areas, adolescent and mature forest areas, as well as water, desert and mountain areas. Protecting 10 percent of older, wildfire risk timber area leave enough trees for a viable forest industry, communities safer from wildfires, and have a broad network of biodiversity. The Federal Government says : As nature talks unfold, here's what '30 by 30' conservation could mean in Canada "When we talk about protecting land and water, we're talking about looking at a whole package of actions across broader landscapes," said Carole Saint-Laurent, head of forest and lands at the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The group's definition of "protected area," which is used by the UN convention on biodiversity, refers to a "clearly defined geographical space" that is managed by laws or regulations with the goal of the long-term protection of nature. "It can range from areas with very strict protections to areas that are being protected or conserved," said Saint-Laurent. "We have to look at that entire suite of protective and restorative action in order to not only save nature, but to do so in a way that is going to help our societies. There is not one magical formula, and context is everything." I trust our BC Provincial Government sees the initiative this way, too. They are committed to the 30 by 30 initiative.

❗ Explore the latest updates on EU conservation efforts! Our recent study delves into how several EU countries are working towards sustainable habitats under the Birds and Habitats Directives. What do we discuss in this report: - Learn how EU Member States are establishing favourable reference values (FRVs) for habitats and species, crucial for their long-term preservation. - Navigate through challenges such as data gaps and resource constraints that experts are addressing to strengthen conservation frameworks. - Additionally, we study the balanced approach between ecological goals and socioeconomic factors in shaping national conservation objectives. This ensures biodiversity preservation while considering economic realities. It was interesting and fun to discover and delve into this topic together with my colleague Zoë van Eldik Explore the report here: https://lnkd.in/e_8iEAXH #EUConservation #Biodiversity #EnvironmentalImpact

Good news: Nature conservation is working! In a period where confidence in carbon offsetting is at an all-time low, it is a relief to se that efforts into nature conservation is actually working. 🌳 🌴 🦧 🌻 🍀 This study published last week in Science is the first world wide assessment of the efficacy of nature conservation projects and the he researchers' findings show that two thirds of conservation initiatives have either enhanced biodiversity or mitigated its decline. Particularly, strategies focusing on species and ecosystems, such as controlling invasive species, minimizing habitat loss, restoring ecosystems, establishing protected areas, and implementing sustainable management practices, have shown significant success and impactful results. 🌳 🌴 🦧 🌻 🍀 This piece of information just made my day and I wish you a wonderful day too! Let's all keep supporting nature conservation. https://t.co/DskyzkYffQ https://buff.ly/4a3EqS8 #Nature #Sustainability #wildlife

Inclusivity... 🌈 Compassionate conservationists follow some guiding principles and one of them is Inclusivity. When finding solutions to issues within conservation, considering all individuals sets you up with a good foundation for finding the best solution that minimises harm. When all individuals are given equal value, it allows for a more thorough investigation into the problem. For example, despite most ‘alien/non-native’ species being harmless to their ecosystem, their label means they are less valued by conservationists compared to native species, and therefore any positive ecological, or social benefits are often completely overlooked. ❓ Did you know - many ‘non-native’ plant species actually provide a great food source for many of the incredibly threatened and dwindling insects in the UK? See more here: To Bee or Not to Bee https://lnkd.in/e5Kx-GHB 🌞 Conservation projects often involve the mass killing of certain animals. Like many other conservationists and organisations, here at Verify Humanity, we feel that this is not what conservation means to us. 🌍 Compassionate Conservation is a reaction, primarily, to the consistent and common use of culling in conservation and it is something we feel very passionately about. ⭐ We believe that as conservationists we can be more creative, resourceful and compassionate in our efforts to protect global biodiversity. 🌳 A lot of the changes needed are rooted in speciesist mindsets and require people to challenge and question their current opinions on what conservation means to them. #compasionteconservation #verifyhumanity #parakeet #london #nature #wildlife #conservation #uk #speciesism #value #individuals #protectallwildlife #inclusivity
