Here today in Kyiv, Ukraine with a Soviet 76 mm artillery howitzer. While designed in the 1927 it is still being used by certain Ukrainian units because of inadequate supplies of 155 mm artillery rounds. Often called the “ king of battle “ artillery systems account for 85% of the casualties on the modern battlefield and Ukraine is no exception. Russia with North Korean support has a significant advantage in the number of rounds available to fire into Ukrainian positions, supporting infantry and armor assaults. To disrupt and stop such assaults Ukraine needs to be able to fire thousands of rounds per day, but because of slow production, difficult supply chain etc. they are often unable to repel Russian assaults. While the U.S. & Germany are beginning to ramp up production, it will be some time before adequate stockpiles are reached. Hence why it is imperative that Allies remove the restrictions in place on certain weapon systems already in place to allow for their full capability to be used against the Russian invaders! Only through force will the Russians come to the table and negotiate an end to this conflict.

Estonia and Poland are reinforcing their defense capabilities through the joint artillery exercise, Äkktuli 2024! This historic event marks the first time that both nations have collaborated using the advanced K9 self-propelled howitzers. Hosted by the Estonian Defence Forces, the exercise brought together conscripts, reservists, and Poland’s 1st Artillery Brigade to test their readiness and coordination in real-world combat scenarios. During this training, the focus was on honing indirect fire skills, ensuring that both Estonian and Polish forces can deliver precision support on the battlefield. With NATO’s eastern flank being of strategic importance, these exercises underscore the commitment of both countries to strengthening the alliance and maintaining regional security. Why is this so significant? https://lnkd.in/gikQDA8Y

“Russia had just under 6,000 artillery and MLRS pieces in the field, comprised of approximately 4,780 artillery pieces, of which 20% are self-propelled, [and] 1,130 MLRS”. https://lnkd.in/g3j7NV_X The numbers of artillery systems listed in this article as being shipped to Ukraine is also revealing. It’s unclear how many are still operational. It’s reasonable to assume that the attrition rate has been significant, particularly for towed systems. The article reports that Ukraine suffers from a 6 to 1 weight of fire ratio deficit. They aren’t out ranged…they are being out shot. Numbers count. There is a big difference between combat level capability and training level capability. Any lessons for the ADF ? ▪️Artillery is still thing ▪️We are going to need more tubes. ▪️We are going to need a lot more munitions.

🇺🇸🇺🇦 Thousands of North Korean troops are massing in Kursk Oblast in western Russia. The U.S. Defense Department expects that, any day now, these troops will march to the front line in Kursk to help Russian troops trying to roll back Ukraine’s surprise invasion of the oblast. “Initial indications are that these troops will be employed in some type of infantry role,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, the Pentagon’s top spokesperson. Ukrainian forces in their 270-square-mile salient in Kursk are getting a boost, too—potentially in the form of hundreds of American-made Stryker armored vehicles. A $425-million aid package the Pentagon announced on Friday includes bombs, missiles, artillery shells—and at least 212 of the speedy, eight-wheel Strykers. Most of the Ukrainian military’s #Strykers are already in Kursk. There’s no reason to believe the additional vehicles won’t also roll into the salient to meet the counterattacking Russians and their new North Korean allies. It’s not apparent how quickly the new #Strykers will arrive in Ukraine. It is apparent what the Ukrainians will do with the vehicles.

155 K 98 - 155 GH 52 APU | Will the Finnish artillery rise again? We are investigating the 155 K 98 (155 GH 52 APU), the history of the Finnish artillery development adventure, and its future. Why did Finland build up a high-tech artillery industry? Why have not the Finnish gun-howitzers been preferred in the international market? Is this assumption correct? Why did Finland acquire a relatively small number of its own gun-howitzers Is there a new chance for the 155 K 98?
