155 K 98 - 155 GH 52 APU | Will the Finnish artillery rise again? We are investigating the 155 K 98 (155 GH 52 APU), the history of the Finnish artillery development adventure, and its future. Why did Finland build up a high-tech artillery industry? Why have not the Finnish gun-howitzers been preferred in the international market? Is this assumption correct? Why did Finland acquire a relatively small number of its own gun-howitzers Is there a new chance for the 155 K 98? Estonia and Poland are reinforcing their defense capabilities through the joint artillery exercise, Äkktuli 2024! This historic event marks the first time that both nations have collaborated using the advanced K9 self-propelled howitzers. Hosted by the Estonian Defence Forces, the exercise brought together conscripts, reservists, and Poland’s 1st Artillery Brigade to test their readiness and coordination in real-world combat scenarios. During this training, the focus was on honing indirect fire skills, ensuring that both Estonian and Polish forces can deliver precision support on the battlefield. With NATO’s eastern flank being of strategic importance, these exercises underscore the commitment of both countries to strengthening the alliance and maintaining regional security. Why is this so significant? https://lnkd.in/gikQDA8Y

“Russia had just under 6,000 artillery and MLRS pieces in the field, comprised of approximately 4,780 artillery pieces, of which 20% are self-propelled, [and] 1,130 MLRS”. https://lnkd.in/g3j7NV_X The numbers of artillery systems listed in this article as being shipped to Ukraine is also revealing. It’s unclear how many are still operational. It’s reasonable to assume that the attrition rate has been significant, particularly for towed systems. The article reports that Ukraine suffers from a 6 to 1 weight of fire ratio deficit. They aren’t out ranged…they are being out shot. Numbers count. There is a big difference between combat level capability and training level capability. Any lessons for the ADF ? ▪️Artillery is still thing ▪️We are going to need more tubes. ▪️We are going to need a lot more munitions.

Did you know that NATO member #Finland has one of the strongest artillery capabilities in #Europe with approximately 1,500 weapons? Here’s Squad Leader #Kauppila to tell you some interesting facts about the #Howitzer. Finland has hosted several international exercises both on land and in the air since the country’s accession to NATO in April 2023. Exercises Lightning Strike and Northern Forest, which took place at the #Rovajärvi exercise area in northern Finland in May and June 2023, aimed to develop joint fire and combat operations between Puolustusvoimat - Försvarsmakten - Finnish Defence Forces, Allied forces and #Sweden. 7,000 Finnish troops were joined by nearly 1,000 Allied forces from #Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and also neighbouring Sweden for these first exercises hosted by Finland since it joined the Alliance. https://lnkd.in/ddTCvNfr

The Russian military lost 1,160 troops, 64 artillery systems and 14 tanks in the space of 24 hours, according to figures from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The report, posted early on Monday to the Ukrainian ministry of defense's official X page, also said 65 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), seven multiple launch rocket systems and 127 vehicles were destroyed over the same period. Russia doesn't publish its military losses, and analysts are skeptical of reports released by both sides. The latest figures, if accurate, would bring Russia's total losses for military personnel, artillery systems and tanks since the 2022 invasion to 661,630, 19,156 and 8,933, respectively, according to Ukrainian data.
