I have a dream. It’s less hopeful and inspiring than the famous "I have a dream" that this line usually evokes. In my recurring dream, I am hours, sometimes minutes away from an event opening, and it is not ready😨. In my milder states of anxiety, it is irritatingly not ready and able to be fixed with an adjusted bit of branding here, and a flickering LED panel replaced there. Sometimes though, it is a more panic inducing flavour with the absence or malfunction of a crucial part of the event that seemingly can’t be corrected in time. In the past this has included a half-finished exhibition stand on opening morning, a venue that has been double booked with another event setting up around us and even the event being fully formed and perfect, with the exception of guests who had not been sent invitations. When I woke from the first of these, I felt a sense of relief not experienced since the last minutes of a football match in 1999 (IYKYK), and I hoped unsuccessfully to never have the dream again. I have come to embrace it though and even welcome it now. A bit of healthy anxiety is a good thing, and if it is my mind’s way of telling me to double check the t’s and i’s are respectively crossed and dotted before an event, then I'll take it. The dream keeps me on my toes. With one week to go until Stratos Pulse's #FutureofeCommerce Catch Up at the Movenpick Grand Plaza, I can’t rule out the odd bit of disrupted REM this week, but with such a great line up of speakers, I know I won’t have to worry about the quality on stage. #ecommerce #catchup #events #digitalretail
