Exciting news for Europe's space industry! The European Commission has selected SpaceRISE, a consortium led by Eutelsat Group, Hispasat, and SES Satellites, to build and operate the multi-orbit satellite constellation of Europe: IRIS² (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite). This highly advanced communications infrastructure will be a game-changer for European space and digital sovereignty, will drive innovation in satellite technology, and provide critical services from crisis management to broadband access. Key highlights: • 290+ satellites in multiple orbits (LEO, MEO, GEO) and the associated ground segment • Secure connectivity for EU governments by 2030 • Commercial broadband services across Europe and Africa • Total investment of about €10.6 bn • 12-year concession public-private partnership #IRIS2 #EuropeanSpace #SatelliteTechnology #DigitalSovereignty Lenotte Jean-Hubert Eutelsat Group Adel Al-Saleh SES Satellites José Sánchez Ruiz Hispasat
We’re honoured to announce that SpaceRISE - a consortium composed of Eutelsat Group, Hispasat, SES Satellites, and other leading European space pioneers - has been awarded by the European Commission to build and operate IRIS², the EU's advanced multi-orbit satellite constellation! This is a significant milestone that will empower Europe with secure, resilient and autonomous communications infrastructure. By the early 2030s, #IRIS2 will bridge connectivity gaps, fortify crisis response and uphold Europe’s #DigitalSovereignty. With robust collaboration across public and private sectors, IRIS² sets a new standard in #SpaceTechnology for the benefit of all #EU Member States. The consortium looks forward to seeing this announcement come to fruition with the expected contract signature finalised over the next few months. Proud to contribute to this transformative journey for Europe’s digital future! https://lnkd.in/eYZyRKnA

The need for strategic autonomy and resilience in the space domain is a topic increasingly discussed, and it's great to see Europe tackling it with the seriousness it deserves. Space, like all other 'warfighting domains', is becoming increasingly contested and congested, and being able to have secure lines of communication, greater earth observation capabilities and swifter responsiveness to new crises is a vital tool to have in your toolkit. Happy to be a part of Eutelsat Group as we take on this important task.

Two new geostationary telecommunications satellites, Al Yah 4 (“AY4”) and Al Yah 5 (“AY5”) will be built for Yahsat by Airbus under a contract announced this week. The significant step follows the signing of an Authorisation-to-Proceed with Airbus in Q2 2023 to commence initial activities in relation to the AY4 and AY5 satellite program.

CelcomDigi and SES Satellites sign MoU to explore MEO satellite connectivity services across Malaysia CelcomDigi Berhad and SES inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership to explore providing satellite connectivity using SES’s Medium-Earth-Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) satellites for businesses and communities in Malaysia. Under this MoU, CelcomDigi, through its subsidiaries, will collaborate with SES to explore the development of a local gateway for Satellite Communication (SatCom) services in Malaysia. Both SES and CelcomDigi will explore harnessing SES’s GEO and MEO satellites with CelcomDigi's infrastructure, such as the site operated by Celcom Timur Sdn Bhd, to provide enterprise-grade satellite connectivity services with high throughput, low latency, and a committed service level agreement (SLA). #MoU #Satellite #MEOSatelliteConnectivity #Connectivity #Malaysia #MWC24 https://lnkd.in/eWDUWsq7

Attending my first session for #satshow 2024: Bruno Fromont of Intelsat and Greg Pelton of Iridium discussed different perspectives on launching new assets versus refurbishing and refueling existing assets. As the cost of launch continues to decrease, Greg argues it becomes less expensive to simply launch new assets while Bruno suggests that updating existing assets makes it possible to launch payloads with less fuel so more payload capacity can be allocated to other valuable things knowing you can later refuel the satellites. 🛰

Our Director H. Ludwig Moeller shares a comment on today's news about SES Satellites acquiring Intelsat: "In the light of continuing market consolidation dynamics, this development raises questions on the governance of the different ‘European’ actors, which all in different ways become part of a bigger global setting, such as EUTELSAT/Oneweb, now SES. Market dynamics as such can be a positive force and shall be leveraged. While Europe debates on autonomy and a competitive European space industry, with uncertain prospects on key initiatives such as IRIS2, reality happens, and Europe needs to act on its programmes and PPPs to ensure a strong European industrial base."

It was a real pleasure to moderate the session on the Future of LEO/MEO constellation at #Satshow2024. The room was packed and lively debate. Few key highlights: * LEO demand is here. The latest contract between Eutelsat and Intelsat validating market demand. Recent undersea cable cuts sparking new customer interest * Multi-orbit has been the the key theme of 2024. Global and regional operators need to have multi orbit strategy in place. Contrasting views on the need for multi orbit service solutions for customers. First adopters expected in Aero IFC, government and possibly cellular backhaul * Need for disruptors in GEO market to remain competitive. Delivery lead times and cost of Software defined satellites are moving up which is contradictory to the requirement for lower cost and shorter development times. See https://lnkd.in/evvZqMAe for more in-depth articles on the session
