As we approach the anniversary date of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adoption, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on how we’re tracking. In fact, every year a report is put together by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network - This organisation takes publicly available information and ranks how each state is making action towards the goals. It’s been a busy old time for Bead and Proceed (we’ve been trying to practice more yohaku - a beautiful Japanese concept that we’ve unpacked in a previous Proceed Peptalk… but anyway)! Now we are finally getting on to sharing the latest results and sadly… the stats are not great. Currently, Aotearoa has 6 SDGs that face major challenges, which include: 🔴 Zero Hunger 🔴 Responsible Consumption and Production 🔴 Climate Action 🔴 Life Below Water 🔴 Life on Land 🔴 Partnerships For the Goals 🔙We’re going backwards on Life Below Water And we’re currently sitting at #26 on the SDG Global Rank. Last year, we were at #27, before 23, before that #16 and before that, we were sitting at #11. This doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going backwards as some states have moved ahead and if you had to guess who are in the top three positions…it’s a typical Scandinavian Success Story with Finland at #1, Sweden in #2 and Denmark in #3. However, this isn’t the Olympics. What’s important is actually achieving the goals (rather than where states are ranked) and sadly no state is on track to achieving all 17 by 2030… which is why I left my law job to paint beads for a living. But seriously… I truly am on a mission to educate, engage and inspire action towards the SDGs from school students to business leaders to city councillors to charities. We all have the power to BEAD the change we want to see in the world and to be agents of this positive change. With the anniversary date approaching, ask yourself: how are you, your business, your team, your community making traction towards the SDGs? And don’t forget, it’s okay to ask for help or reach out if you’re not sure where to begin. #sdgs #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #sustainability #creativity #sustainabilityreporting

Wow! What a week! I had the privilege of delivering the keynote at the WSA 2024 Global Congress in beautiful Patagonia, Chile. The WSA celebrates innovators delivering positive social impact by harnessing the power of technology to drive towards the United Nations SDGs. It was inspirational to hear how people around the world are tackling environmental problems, building social cohesion, and reimagining impact investing to literally make the world a better place. Congratulations to the 40 winners who were celebrate at the event. I encourage you all to learn more about their amazing work, which covers everything from improving sanitation in rural villages in the Global South to using AI to learn and remember ancient languages that are in danger of becoming extinct. Thanks again to Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck, Nora Wolloch, and the entire WSA board for inviting me to participate in this amazing event. My keynote had a strong message: "governments alone will not solve the increasingly challenging problems that humanity faces - the charge will be led by innovators and social entrepreneurs who find a way to solve issues while creating sustainable businesses." Like all founders, these innovators need support, advice, and funding to realize their potential. So, I was grateful for the opportunity to share some details of the work that Adam Maddock and I are doing in this field… We will soon launch VentureForge, an innovative nonprofit with a mission to help founders forge their ideas into impact, leveraging a proprietary digital platform and global community. Stay tuned for more on this soon! 😎 #WSA #UnitedNations #SDGs #innovation #impact #socialenterprise #impactinvesting

📌Theory of change! or: How to change the way we travel one grassroot at a time. When we started connecting more and more true change makers through Singular Places, we starting feeling a growing responsibility to also make sure we talk about OUR IMPACT. Our work was connecting the community, all based on values. But demanding so much from our partners we also wanted to make sure to deliver to the promise ourselves. ❗And suddenly we felt overwhelmed! Truly. So much to do, so much you cannot measure (yet), 17SDG to look after. ❗We were frustraded – WE NEEDED HELP! And we found that with the help of IE University to allow us various sessions with Andrea González G. Vega. We started getting a better focus. And then we joined the absolute wonderful sessions of The Long Run run by Anne-Kathrin Zschiegner to “integrate sustainable management through strategic planning to enable tourism businesses to expand their positive impact and become more resilient.” 💚With a more focused vision, we are now able to develop a true concept, all the way to our business model. 🙏🙏We cannot thank those inspirational women enough that were there during this journey and supported by: Ines de Agueda; Carmen Álvarez-Margaride Marcos, Audrey Mourguiart, Cecilia Serravalle, Ruth Crichton, Joy Mbatau and so many more. Looking forward to MORE! Check in the comment section our link to the impact page …and stay tuned for our first annual impact report! Please also let others know HOW YOU MEASURE your impact, every example is an inspiration. Everybody welcome to link to their impact site, reports, etc. ✅Impact competition is probably the nicest competition I have ever been part of ☺️ #travelbetter #theoryofchange #strongertogether #measureyourimpact #thelongrun #inthistogether #actnotjusttalk #supportingeachother

Looking forward to attending my first Diversify Nordics Summit on the 27th of September in Oslo. I'll be facilitating this panel with three fantastic participants: Whose Story is it Anyway? Reclaiming Mainstream Narratives. Participants: Anne Lajla Utsi, Ritika Wadhwa and Henri Terho. "The discussion that follows will challenge us to confront the power dynamics that shape whose voices are amplified and whose stories are silenced. In a world where narrative sovereignty is increasingly contested, we must ask: Who controls the stories that define our culture, history, and future, and what are the consequences of this control? As narratives around critical issues like the energy transition are crafted, whose perspectives are being highlighted, and whose are overlooked? This discussion will explore the intersection of activism and artivism, questioning how the stories that drive social and environmental change are selected and who benefits from their telling. Moreover, the conversation will explore the often-hidden power structures behind storytelling—who receives the funding and resources to tell their stories, and how does this influence which narratives become mainstream? In a media landscape dominated by gatekeepers, how can marginalized voices reclaim their narratives and challenge the status quo? This panel pushes us to examine the role of power in storytelling, asking whether true narrative sovereignty is possible in a system where economic and political interests often dictate whose stories are told and heard."
📢 Announcing our next speaker for Diversify Nordics Summit (DNS) 2024: @Julie Forchhammar (She/Her), Co-founder of Klimakultur 🎤✨ Julie Forchhammer is the co-founder of Klimakultur, a Norwegian non-profit founded in 2021 in the mountains in Vang in Valdres. Klimakultur mobilizes the culture sector on how to take action on climate change and implement climate justice. Working in Norway where the fossil fuel industry is present in every aspect of society, Julie is passionate about using the art and culture sector to create spaces for reflections on topics that are often not that easily discussed here. As she says: “The fossil fuel industry are masters of PR, with unlimited resources to influence the public debate and delay climate action. Artists and culture workers may not always be well financed but we also have one unlimited and renewable resource: The power to be brave and tell the truth.” Join us to listen to Julie and our other speakers on September 27, 2024, in the heart of Oslo. 🎟️Book your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/e-Z5Q9CD 💡You can check our list of speakers on our website: https://lnkd.in/dugTHT74 Corporate Partners: Amazon Web Services (AWS),EY, Google, Expedia Group, Berlitz Norway, Alda, HiBob, The Coca-Cola Company Norway Collaboration Partners: deidei, RFSL utbildning, WomenTechIceland, Oslo Innovation Week, Oslo Business Region, Nordic Women in Tech Awards, Klimakultur, Iceland Innovation Week, Welcome to Oslo- Oslo kommune Supported by Robert Bosch Stiftung, Centric Advisory, Ada Ventures, BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt #DiversifyNordics #Conference #Diversify #Leadership #Sustainability #Inclusion #PeopleAndCulture
