I love the focus on building each other up!! Working on your resume + cover letter + interview skills is of course important as an immigrant. But so is sharing our learning, resources, and compassion. I would have nothing here in Norway if it weren't for so many people who have built me up - Svetlana Skurtveit helping me in a visa crisis, Gustavo Sugahara and Ellen Aabo with career advice, Erika Gubrium for including me in her family, colleagues like Gerd Johanne Hestnes and Leendert Wienhofen who work quickly to connect people, Martine Kråkø Romstad who recognizes/applauds/builds diversity of thought, Tore Betten for all-around ❤️, and dozens more. Diversify's mentoring program for immigrants, by immigrants has been a GREAT way to mobilize necessary practical & emotional support... and I've gotten to connect with and learn from my mentee Karol Baca Lopez, senior low-code/no-code developer, experienced product manager, former professor, former entrepreneur, with a PhD in machine learning for health sciences 🤯Thank you, Miguel Angel Leyva Salas

🤔What works for immigrants looking for a job in Norway? We had an insightful and heartwarming call addressing this question with 3 mentor-mentee pairs from our and Sammen om en jobb's mentorship programs. They shared their success stories about how their relationship evolved and what actions they took that led to a job offer. 🎉 Here are a few of the many tips we gathered: 🤝Build each other up! This path is tough, and motivating each other is fundamental. Find commonalities that can strengthen your relationship and aspects where you can learn from each other. 🌎Network, network, network…Plan how to build your network by attending events, contacting people, and being genuinely curious and open to getting to know others. Information and opportunities often come from these exchanges. 🎤Practice talking about yourself! Do mock interviews with your mentor based on applications you’re interested in; it will be easier for you when you really need to shine.
