🚀 **Guidance for Year 12 Students Aspiring to Degree Apprenticeships** 🎓 Hey everyone! As Year 12students, the journey towards degree apprenticeships can feel a bit overwhelming, but with the right approach, it can also be incredibly rewarding. Here are some tips to help you navigate this exciting path: 1. **Research Your Options**: Take the time to explore various degree apprenticeship programs available in your field of interest. Understand the requirements, benefits, and career prospects associated with each.Helpful website to find summer internships and work experience include: E4S , Ratemyapprenticeship and a great place is also the Sutton trust who run many different pathway programs as well as the websites of the companies you’d like to work for . 2. **Network**: Connect with professionals in your desired industry. Attend career fairs, webinars, and networking events to gain insights and make valuable connections. LinkedIn is a great platform for this! 3. **Don’t procrastinate on opportunities **: when an opportunity is presented to you take it immediately don’t procrastinate because there are many other people out there who will snatch up the opportunity and you may regret it later this was a mistake I learned from as I lost out on a lot of opportunities due to procrastination and leaving things till the last minute. 4. **Stay Positive and Persistent**: Rejections are part of the process. Keep refining your approach and don’t lose sight of your goals. Remember, degree apprenticeships offer a fantastic blend of practical experience and academic learning, setting you up for a successful career. Good luck to all aspiring applicants! 🌟 #DegreeApprenticeships #CareerAdvice #Year12 #FutureLeaders #Education

Apprenticeship Application Tip #2 Tailor your application to each apprenticeship opportunity. Rather than using a generic approach, customise your CV, cover letter, and responses to fit the specific role and company you’re applying to. Highlight the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the apprenticeship and show how you can add value to their team. Why? Because personalised applications make you stand out. They demonstrate that you’ve taken the time to understand what the employer is looking for and that you're genuinely interested in working for them. It’s not about having the perfect background. It’s about showing your potential, passion, and willingness to learn. Avoid putting unnecessary things in your CV that wouldn’t help you in your apprenticeship application. This relates to my previous tip in my last post that, if you have a strong fundamental idea of what role you desire from early, this will allow you enough time to gain experience relevant to that specific role. Once again, save yourself the headache!

Following on from a post my friend Anna Hegarty posted a few weeks ago about an event she was running at a local Secondary School where she had requested people to provide questions to pose to those who had chosen to not to go to University and instead enter the world of work. I thought I would post the questions I suggested here for those of you who didn't choose the University route to answer, retrospectively, to help those young people considering a similar move: 1. What advice would you give someone considering not going to University? 2. If you could do it again, is there anything you’d do differently? 3. What advice would you go back and give your 17/18 year old self? 4. What skills do you think employers find most valuable for those starting their first job? 5. Are there any common misconceptions about working without a degree that you’d like to clarify? 6. How has entering the workplace straight from school impacted your career in the long term? 7. In what way did starting work earlier give you an advantage? Of course, entering the world of work is one option but Apprenticeships are another route that allow an individual to continue learning but, on the job, so to speak. And, with the Apprenticeship Careers Fair coming up next week at the Kia Oval on Tuesday 5th November, it seemed timely to share. To get the most out of these fairs, I would suggest preparing the following: 1. Do some research beforehand to find out who is exhibiting and identify which employers you wish to meet 2. Set a goal or two for you to aim to achieve with every employer you meet 3. Prepare a list of questions to ask them to help you understand their recruitment process and how best to prepare for each stage and the timelines 3. Prepare a short elevator pitch and practice delivering it 4. Have ready copies of your stand out CV so you can leave with them Good luck!

Who remembers The Inbetweeners? It first aired in 2008 - how old does that make you feel... I now have a tenuous link with that coming-of-age classic, thanks to being an Enterprise Adviser at Ruislip High School in west London, which was the location for Rudge Park Comprehensive. Now that I've got your attention, can I encourage you to help some real Ruislip High Year 12 students make informed decisions about their next steps? Will you spare a few hours on Wednesday 20 November to talk about your company/university/grad scheme/degree apprenticeship/apprenticeship? RHS is running a joint careers fair with Y12s from Vyners School. ⭐ You don't have to have gone to school in the area ⭐ You don't have to have gone to university - the school promotes apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships just as much as uni pathways ⭐ Experiences from all sectors are welcome ⭐ You don't have to have watched The Inbetweeners Please reach out to Tess Bonny to express your interest and find out more. And remember, even if you can't make this event, there are so many other ways to help - assembly talks, presentations, skills workshops and more. Thanks! #careers #studentsupport #sharingknowledge #careersfair #earlycareers #inbetweeners Association for Project Management #apprenticeships #degreeapprenticeships #universities
