Indian Elections 2024 <> Digital Marketing Spends 🤑 With the election results right in the corner, the 2024 Indian general elections are expected to witness a significant surge in digital marketing spends by political parties. According to reports, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) has already spent a substantial amount on promoting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election slogans, making it the largest spender on Google ads in the country! 🗝 Key Findings: ✅ The CBC spent around $4.65 million on Google advertisements, carrying the BJP’s catchphrases, making it the largest spender on Google ads in the country. ✅ The CBC’s spending is 41% more than the $3.3 million spent by the primary opposition Congress party in almost six years. ✅ The total spending on political Google advertisements has increased significantly, with the total spend amounting to nearly $1.3 billion in the period between November 1, 2023, and March 15, 2024, compared to $11.77 million in the same period before the 2019 general election. ✅ Digital marketing for political parties has grown by 675% since 2012, making it a crucial medium for political campaigns. The 2024 Indian general elections was a digital battleground, with political parties investing heavily in digital marketing to reach their target audience. The CBC’s significant spend on Google ads and the increasing trend of digital marketing for political campaigns indicate that this medium will play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the elections. As the world’s largest elections are underway, all eyes are on digital platforms and the role they are playing in influencing the electorate. However, it may also be time to question the effectiveness of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) set down by the Election Commission (EC) in ensuring free and fair elections in India. Despite clear rules prohibiting political campaigning during the silence period, a study conducted by the CSDS-Lokniti has found political parties to be spending substantial money on advertising campaigns on social media during this time. Dear LinkedIn Fam ♥️ Elections are on the way and this is an article about the Indian Elections '24 & Digi-Campaigns. Just spend 2-3 mins in proofreading this article. I hope this will be more insightful and interesting. #elections2024 #voteforchange #indianelections 👉The internet has made our lives easier, but we did not expect the digital revolution that has taken place in our country. India is now a global power and every country is proud of its achievements in various fields. Our nation is gearing up for a huge democratic election, held in seven phases, with around 97 crore voters across the country. 👉In this digital age, digital marketing is very helpful in bringing information to people's attention. As I was scrolling through social media and search engines, I noticed that parties and individual candidates contesting in the Parliamentary elections 2024 have started digital campaigns to reach all audiences. UNRAVELING THE SECRETS 👇 ▪️Parties like BJP and DMK, which have a high chance of winning MP seats, are using Google and Meta Ads to post their new election campaigns and their achievements during their period. ▪️They are also active on social media, posting memes, reels, and posts that explain why people should vote for them. The IT Wing of their respective parties manages this work and hires digital marketers to assist their campaigns by giving various taglines and running sponsored ads. ▪️They focus on first-time voters by understanding their algorithms and sending regular updates to position their party name, symbol, and candidate's name in the minds of the people. ▪️One individual candidate, Deepan, who is contesting for the Namakkal constituency, has 90k followers on Instagram and has digitally campaigned himself about what he would do if elected as the MP. ▪️This digital campaign was not very effective in the past, but it shows the impact of digital marketing on the election. 👉If you are a voter in Tamil Nadu, you may have noticed the digital marketing impact on the election. Every post gives you information about what they did and what they did not do. So, it's important to think wisely and vote for the betterment of ourselves and our country. Let us make this election 100% successful.

🚨 I’m thrilled to share an in-depth article on the #Maharashtra #elections, focusing on the role of proxy pages in political landscape. Political parties are increasingly leaning on these pages across platforms like #Meta to sidestep official affiliations, raising transparency concerns as these unaffiliated pages shape voter perceptions without clear accountability. In insightful conversations with industry experts—Zefmo Co-founder and CEO Shudeep Majumdar, and Anup Sharma, a political adviser for the Maharashtra elections—I explored how precise micro-targeting and digital outreach are reshaping electoral campaigns. Shudeep noted a significant surge in digital spending, placing Maharashtra at the forefront of India’s digital campaign landscape, while Anup offered insights into how these proxy pages operate within India’s political system. #MetaAdLibrary data from last week highlights the substantial investments by Maharashtra’s leading political parties, along with an increasing presence of proxy pages. For example, the BJP Maharashtra page led with Rs 8.61 lakh in ad spend, while proxy pages like “Lekha Jokha Maharashtracha” invested Rs 3.6 lakh, contributing to a notable rise in digital ad investments this election season. For exclusive data and deeper insights, check out the full article! Maharashtra Elections: Proxy pages become battlegrounds for political parties.

The 2024 general elections are coming to a close. Its the season for psephologists of all hues, moving from one TV Channel to another with their analysis. Having handled ad campaigns in several elections - from Punjab, Kashmir, UP, TN to Lok Sabha, here's my two-bit. 1. Ad campaigns for political parties don't make a difference. Voters don't decide after looking at a party's election campaign. 2. Politicians are smart; their MIS is better than the one at best of marketing organizations. 3. Thus, they know their audience better than most marketing honchos. 4. They know, beforehand, if they are winning or losing; it often reflects in their body language. 5. Negative advertising doesn't work. Voters want to know what you are going to deliver. 6. Credibility is what matters; if your party's or your leader's track record is suspect, you can promise the moon, it wouldn't get you votes. 7. Smart leaders know which issue to flag, take advantage of and which issue needs to be ignored. 8. Ad campaigns happen because its the custom; they only affect the "undecided" voter and that's a very small percentage. Possibly 2 or 3 % in a constituency. NOTE: If you wish to truly understand which way an election is likely to go, stay away from media. The unbiased journalist is an extinct species.

On elections results day in the UK reflecting on the last few months for the Reform Political Advertising campaign it has been in some senses a pilot for the upcoming UK general election. Unlike commercial advertising electoral ads have no rules for fact based claims. So as some of you know with the various elections underway this year to plug this regulatory gap we launched an ad code where we approached mayoral candidates standing for election initially to sign up to it. The response has been beyond our expectations. We’ve had 7 London mayor candidates sign up including Labour’s London mayor Sadiq Khan and the Green Party and the Liberal Democrat candidates. Others that signed up include the Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire mayors Andy Burnham and Tracy Brabin. Several parties have also signed up nationally including Plaid Cymru and The Green Party. We are partnering with Full Fact for the general election. Our sights are now set on that for which we’ll be looking for volunteers that can help with sourcing and fact checking ads as part of our continued efforts to document disinformation in ads which is part of our case for change. If you'd like to get involved in that please let me know. You can see some of the previous work that the campaign has done in this area in the link in the comments. RPA is the not for profit, politically neutral campaign that I co-founded alongside my day job. It is campaigning for the unanimous cross party House of Lords recommendation (from the committee we gave evidence to) for regulation of fact based claims in election ads. Similar to those that exist for the ones my marketing and ecommerce connections with be familiar with in commercial advertising. Unsurprisingly research has shown consistently shown the UK public overwhelmingly support this. At the last general election 87% in Yougov research agreed with the statement “do you think it should or should not be a legal requirement that factual claims in political adverts must be accurate?”. Please get in touch if you'd like to help. Thanks to the AnalogFolk team who put together this visual around the last general election.

The Hungarian election campaign leading up to the 2024 parliamentary elections has been marked by a pronounced imbalance in political advertising spending, particularly on social media platforms. This phenomenon has been underscored in a recent investigation by the independent think tank Political Capital, funded by the European Media and Information Fund, which confirms earlier observations regarding the lack of a level playing field in Hungarian elections. #EUToday #PoliticsToday #Hungary #Fidesz #Disinformation #SocialMedia
