According to several sources, DIRECTV will start offering customers the option to opt out of local channels in their satellite packages. It looks like you could save $12 a month by opting out, and you might have that option as soon as this summer. I don't know how popular this option will be. I will say that you can get a lot of prime-time programs through Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount+. #antennas #directv #satellite

The era of cable dominance is unraveling. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount wrote down $15 billion in cable network value, reflecting the declining relevance of channels like MTV, Comedy Central, and TNT. Now, Comcast plans to spin off its underperforming cable networks, minus Bravo, into a new entity tasked with absorbing other neglected assets. This "Island of Misfit Networks" echoes the forgotten toys of yore: quirky, flawed, and unwanted. FOR SALE BY OWNER Despite optimistic spin, it's clear these channels are relics of an outdated cable bundle model, once subsidized by uninterested subscribers to the tune of $1,500 per viewer in some cases. The idea of a NewCo offering palliative care to dying networks is futile. Instead, the industry should focus on adapting to the streaming age by investing in creators who thrive on digital platforms. As traditional networks fade into irrelevance, success lies in episodic storytelling that transcends platforms and formats, signaling the quiet end of the network era.
