Is the AI market a big bubble set for bursting? And will jumping on the bandwagon, contribute to the burst? This a great video by Sky News and worth a watch, exploring the potential of the AI market being a bubble waiting to pop. It doesn’t matter which camp you sit in when it comes to the AI debate, it won’t take away the fact that AI is here to stay. But what puts the market at risk of becoming a burstable bubble, is companies building AI products for the sake of building AI products. We at Loopin made this mistake, getting caught in the hype of it all, and deviating off track to a degree, early last year. But what changed our thinking, was going back to our core mission and the problem that we solve, looking at AI as not something that we need to build and be part of, but instead, invest in how it makes us better at solving the problems we originally set out to solve for our customers. Loopin aims to understand how people are at work and give them what they want when they need it, across a wide range of people areas. This has and always will be, what we look to achieve. Where AI comes in for us, is helping our customers and users better understand sentiment data, provide digital coaching, give faster access to learning and training materials, personalise the development journey, and give quicker access to information from across a company. This can be used to improve well-being, boost engagement, drive high performance and increase operational efficiencies. Core problems that have been, and will always be there. In my eyes, what puts the market at risk, is too many companies building and deploying AI products for the sake of it and just trying to be part of the 'hype'. What will make the market stronger, is companies and startups sticking to solving their true problems, and augmenting themselves, using an AI application layer to solution for the problems they solve, even more effectively. For founders, knowing what kind of company you are building is essential for recruiting proper talent, partnering with aligned investors, securing sufficient capital, and deploying a viable business model. AI-first companies require deep AI research acumen, investors willing to take a long view, materially more capital, and potentially less conventional business models than AI-enabled peers. In reality, this distinction is a spectrum, not a binary. Impactful companies will be built with both approaches, and far more will be AI-enabled than AI-first. For AI-first companies, though, we believe the fruit will be worth the labor. Influence over the technology stack from the ground up enables tight control over cost structure, immeasurable product optionality, and greater defensibly relative to AI-enabled companies that defer the exercise of scientific inquiry to those that are AI-first. #AI #aipricing #aimonetization #aicommercialization #pricing

We’re still in the very early stage of the AI cycle, and the potential ahead is enormous. Eric Sheridan from Goldman Sachs explains that AI is in "build mode," and we’re just beginning to scratch the surface of what’s possible. "If you look at every computing cycle, there’s always a product that captures imagination, followed by a build cycle.” For investors and business leaders, this is a moment to have patience. Those who understand the cycle know that transformative technologies require time to fully realize their impact. Companies investing in AI today - particularly those with access to capital, engineering talent, and data - are positioning themselves to lead the next wave of innovation. #ai

While this piece looks at the impact genAI is having on investors specifically, a lot of their learnings are broadly applicable. I found the paragraph below particularly interesting because it makes a call back to a similar sentiment of all companies becoming technology companies. "AI is a value-creation opportunity. AI’s value creation opportunity will only grow as it becomes more powerful and cheaper to deploy. As investment rises and costs decline, expect new applications and AI agents powered by various AI models to emerge. These will pave the way for broader genAI adoption across the consumer and enterprise landscape. Implementing AI across entire portfolios was repeatedly identified as a value creation and stewardship opportunity for investors; at some point, all companies will be considered AI companies."

I just read an interesting article (link in comments below) on TechCrunch that I thought I'd share. It read, in part, that "Gartner released a report suggesting that around a third of generative AI projects in the enterprise will be abandoned after the proof-of-concept phase by year-end 2025. The reasons are many — poor data quality, inadequate risk controls, escalating infrastructure costs and so on. But one of the biggest barriers to generative AI adoption is the unclear business value, per the report.” "Unclear business value." That feels important...especially in light of the venture dollars chAIsing the AI dream (see what I did there?). I'm not saying that AI - and in reality, ML (at least today) - is akin to the previous hype cycle themes that Camber Creek stayed away from. AI/ML (MAIL?) is/will be a fundamental step change for the building blocks of software. But venture investors, and especially angels, should be careful to avoid investing into the hype rather than focusing on the business value. #venturecapital #AI #ML #themoreyouknow
