What businesses do well on TikTok Shop seems massively uncrowded: TikTok has over 1.6 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 monthly active users (MAUs). Yet, there are only 32k shops in the U.S. Amazon has 310 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 MAUs and 1 million sellers in the U.S. These platforms have obvious differences, but you get the comparison. TikTok is going to see an unbelievable Q4. There’s a huge increase in sellers on the platform, which means more products, more ads, and more chances for shoppers to see something they must have. Last year, sellers on TikTok Shop sellers reported a 400% increase in Q4 sales vs Q3 and a conversion rate more than DOUBLE Amazon's. What’s interesting is that this momentum doesn’t just stay on TikTok. Many consumers who spot something they love on TikTok end up buying it directly on Amazon. It's a win-win for brands across both platforms. Today marks the start of the mad rush. I'm excited to see how the dynamic between TikTok Shop and Amazon plays out this year. TikTok Shop is here, it’s legit, it’s imperfect, it’s Wild West, and it’s a game changer. Its a tremendous discovery platform and you don’t have to buy your way to the top or worry about deeply entrenched incumbents just yet like on Amazon. What it does share with Amazon is high traffic, low barrier to entry, and they’ve even rolled out their own fulfillment service. You guessed it, “Fulfilled By TikTok”. You can try to get people to go to a site they’ve never heard of or you can simply put yourself where people are already spending their time and money. I've seen a lot of buzz around the topic of #TikTokShop recently, and I'd like to weigh in on my current thoughts 💭: As much as some larger brands may want to stay away from it... I have a feeling that won’t last long. When TikTok Shop first launched, I and many of my colleagues were skeptical. It felt like another marketplace filled with unknown brands, almost like the wild west of #ecommerce. I couldn’t help but think of platforms like Temu or Shein, and being completely honest, I actively avoided it. Here’s the thing: as more reputable brands jump on the platform, it’s notably quickly gaining credibility. TikTok’s ability to combine entertainment with 'spontaneous' shopping is a HUGE game-changer, especially for Gen Z and millennials who love the idea of instant access. While Amazon drew people in with quick delivery times, TikTok Shop offers that 'see it, love it, buy it' experience—or as I like to call it: Impulse shopping. For those still skeptical, it’s worth watching how TikTok Shop performs over the holidays. With the right tools and strategies, I think we’re about to see it solidify its position as the third major e-commerce channel alongside #Amazon and #DTC websites.
