OIG News | Russia's Pork Exports to China Are Poised to Surge Significantly by 2030 In July 2024, #China's #imports of #pork and pork #by-products from #Russia surged to 3.7 times the volume recorded in June, placing Russia among the top 10 suppliers of these products to China. Since Russia gained access to the Chinese pork market in January 2024, its pork exports have steadily increased. China's #anti-#dumping investigation on #EU pork imports has further opened up opportunities for Russia to demonstrate its #competitiveness in the Chinese market. A report by the Russian Agricultural Bank (#RusAg) projects that Russia's pork exports to China could exceed 50,000 tons in 2024, with the potential to meet one-third of #China's #future pork #demand growth by 2030. This trend not only helps #alleviate #pressure on China's domestic pork supply but also #diversifies import sources and #strengthens the #stability of the country's #supplychain, enhancing #food #security and consumer health amid evolving global trade dynamics. OIG News | The decline of China Pork Imports Continues in 2024 The revised 2024 forecast for #China #pork #imports anticipates a 21% #decline year-on-year to 1.5 million tons, the lowest since 2019. If realized, 2024 imports will return to similar levels to before China's outbreaks of African swine fever (#ASF), which began to impact China's #production at the end of 2018. Despite forecast #lower imports, China is expected to remain the #largest global pork importer. At the peak of #ASF outbreaks in #2020, imports accounted for #13% of China pork #consumption. The import share of consumption has steadily declined since then as domestic production recovered from ASF and returned to pre-ASF levels in 2022. For #2024, China's pork production is forecast #56% #higher than in 2020 and in 2024 imports are projected to account for only 3% of consumption. Due in part to #abundant #domestic #supplies, stubbornly #low #pork #prices in China since early 2023 have weakened demand for imports. Average reported pork prices were 10% lower during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 and 56% lower than the first quarter of 2020. For many major #foreign #suppliers, it is #difficult for their exports to remain #competitive in the China market given #low #domestic prices. Major global pork suppliers to China – including the #EuropeanUnion, #Brazil, and the #UnitedStates – are expected to seek #alternative markets. However, these markets will only partially offset lower China demand. As a result, competition is likely to increase in other large import markets including #Japan, #SouthKorea, and the #Philippines. ARGENTINA: Pork exports hit 4-year high In June, the highest export volume since 2021 was achieved. The resulting balance indicated an inflow of foreign currency for Argentina. "Very good news from the #pork sector is that in June a positive trade balance was achieved, both in volume and in foreign currency in the foreign trade of pork and by-products. This is the path that must be continued," said consultant Juan Luis Uccelli. In the document generated by the aforementioned, it is indicated that they had anticipated an increase in exports, a fact that materialized in the month of June when 1,547 tons of pork were sold, the most important monthly volume achieved in June 2021. The figure is not only important because of the total quantity, he says, but fundamentally because 50% of it is frozen pork . "It is important to highlight the work of all those who made this result possible, both exporting plants and producers who were committed to the issue," he said. https://lnkd.in/g576mf6q #pork #porkmarket #meatindustry

📉 Uruguay's Beef Exports to China Hit 8-Year Low Uruguay's beef exports to China have dropped to their lowest point since 2016. In July, the country exported just over 26,000 tons of fresh beef, with only 10,000 tons going to China. This is a big change from a couple of years ago when China was buying more than 70% of Uruguay's beef exports. The drop is due to lower beef production and less competitive prices offered by Chinese importers. On the other hand, exports to the United States have increased significantly, with the U.S. paying around $900 more per ton than China. This shift could have important implications for Uruguay's beef industry and global trade. #BeefExports #China #TradeTrends #Meat #MeatIndustry #MeatNews #MeatBorsa [Source: https://lnkd.in/dw8-jDa7 ]

📢 Navigating the Pork Trade Wars: China's Anti-Dumping Investigation on EU Pork Products 🐖 China has launched an anti-dumping investigation into EU pork products during escalating trade tensions. This move follows the EU's recent tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, highlighting the tit-for-tat dynamics between the two economic giants. While the EU remains confident in its fair trade practices, the investigation is expected to impact major pork exporters like Denmark, the Netherlands, and Spain. Pig meat, which accounted for 17% of EU agri-food exports to China last year, is at the center of this dispute. However, the impact for China's vast pork market might be limited, given that EU pork imports constitute just 5% of China's total consumption. Yet, the timing is crucial as China struggles with an oversupply of pork, driving prices down and intensifying economic deflation. China, the world’s largest pork producer and consumer, has seen its pork market recover from African swine fever outbreaks, leading to an oversupply and significant price drops. This has contributed to broader economic challenges, with pork prices being a key component of the consumer price index. The EU faces a "potential nightmare scenario" if the investigation leads to a suspension of pork exports to China, potentially benefiting American and Russian suppliers. This complex situation underscores the interconnectedness of global trade and its impact on domestic markets.
