📝 A call for a European Biodiversity Observation Centre (EBOCC) EuropaBON has delivered its proposal for a European Biodiversity Observation and Coordination Centre (EBOCC). In a nutshell, Europe has a wealth of biodiversity data, but it's fragmented and sometimes difficult to use. There is also a lack of consistency in monitoring programmes across regions, and critical gaps in data on birds, habitats and marine life. The result is an inability to effectively measure progress towards biodiversity targets and to make evidence-based decisions on how to manage and conserve resources. An EBOCC could be an important part of the solution. Acting as a central hub for coordinating and improving biodiversity monitoring in Europe, it would focus on: • Data integration: Breaking down data silos and ensuring all information is accessible and interoperable. • Enhanced monitoring: Supporting the development of new programs to fill existing gaps. • Capacity building: Training experts and stakeholders in data collection and analysis techniques. • Policy-driven approach: Providing data and analysis tailored to inform policy decisions and track progress towards EU biodiversity goals. An investment in EBOCC is an investment in Europe's future. It is the key to more robust biodiversity monitoring and conservation across the EU. ⬇️ Read the full proposal ⬇️ #Biodiversity #BiodiversityMonitoring #EBOCC #EuropeanGreenDeal #EUResearch

In the spring of 2024, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) was included in the global technical and scientific cooperation support structure to promote and implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was adopted at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (December 2022). The structure will consist of a network of regional and/or subregional technical and scientific cooperation support centres, coordinated at the global level by the global coordinating body, to facilitate the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and work on the Convention and its protocols. It should be noted that becoming a regional hub for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in Central Asia will help CAREC to attract and promote various projects for the protection of biodiversity at the regional level.
