ECSA and ECS are leaving X The decision stems from significant ethical and practical concerns involving the management of the platform. Our social media Follow us on Bluesky: @ecsa.ngo and @ecs.ngo Facebook: @ECSAcommunity and @EUCitSciProject Instagram: @ecsa_community and @eucitsciproject Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ecGP4CJa Since Elon Musk acquired the platform, X has shifted focus, prioritising profit over fundamental values like safety and inclusivity. Many previously basic free features have been locked behind a paywall, reducing accessibility. These changes undermine the values ECSA and ECS stand for, and we believe it is no longer a space that aligns with our mission or serves our community effectively. Our decision also echoes the concerns and decisions of many organisations and individuals who are now taking the same path as us. The European Commission has opened formal proceedings to assess whether X may have breached the Digital Services Act (DSA) in areas linked to risk management, content moderation, dark patterns, advertising transparency and data access for researchers. We’ll keep our X accounts active over the coming weeks, and progressively stop publishing on it until the end of January 2025. After this point the accounts will be frozen, but not deleted: this is to preserve an archive of our previous news, stories, and activities and avoid the misuse of ECSA- and ECS-named accounts absent our presence.

ECSA - encourages the growth of citizen science in Europe.
Info
The European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) is a non-profit association set up to encourage the growth of the Citizen Science movement in Europe. It draws on 200 individual and organizational members from over 28 countries across the European Union and beyond. Launched during the EU GREEN WEEK in June 2013, ECSA has grown from an informal network of researchers and communicators interested in Citizen Science into the European reference network of Citizen Science initiatives. ECSA builds on the substantial expertise of its members in order to mobilize Citizen Science as means for evidence-based sustainable development. As spelled out in our strategy, ECSA will conduct research and support refinement of methodologies, increase capacities and develop three interrelated key competencies: - Promoting Sustainability through Citizen Science, - Building a Think Tank for Citizen Science, - Developing Participatory Methods for Cooperation, Empowerment and Impact. Please be sure to adhere to ECSA's social media code of conduct: https://bit.ly/45FBQBz
