SHOUT OUT TO TEACHERS!!! *That took the time to know their students beyond the classroom. *That went to extra cirricular events of their students to support them. *That realized everyday the platform they have the privilege to stand on daily and impact lives for the future *That wasn’t just about the rules but also the relationship in meeting the needs of their students. *That took the time to not only invest in the academic but also the spiritual needs of their students. *That balanced the load of being a parent and also caring for the needs of their school kids. *That stayed up late praying for that kid that you knew struggled. *That stayed after school many a times to give extra help. *That took the time to visit the families of your kids. *That cared more about your kids and how they were doing more than getting your lesson done. *That took the time to explain the “WHY” more than just giving the “What”. *That didn’t forget what it was like to be a student and knew when to give them a break. *That didn’t just give homework to give homework. *That persevered even when your voice wasn’t heard by your administration. *That encouraged students to think outside the box *That focused in trying to reach the heart of their students and not just change their behavior *That encouraged kids that after they graduate, their path does not have to look the same as everyone else. *That reached out to the student who didn’t receive any awards of any kind, and congratulated them for the effort they gave and inspired them to do what they can *That realized that not every student is made for the classroom and that intelligence is not confined to tests and quizzes but hands on creativity *That even right now you still think about and pray for former students because you always see them as your kids. Today, I received something that every teacher dreams of: heartfelt appreciation from my students. Teaching isn’t just about sharing knowledge—it’s about forming connections, fostering growth, and sometimes being that small spark that lights up a person’s journey. But the truth is, we don’t always get to see the impact we make right away. So when students take the time to express their gratitude, it’s one of the most fulfilling moments for any educator. It’s in these moments that you’re reminded why you do what you do. Every challenge, every long day, every effort to reach just one student feels worth it. It’s not just about the subjects we teach, but the values we instill and the confidence we nurture. Knowing that I’ve helped shape someone’s path, even in a small way, is incredibly humbling. This appreciation from my students means more than words can express. It’s a reminder that what we do has lasting value—something that sticks with people as they move forward in life. It’s moments like these that fuel my passion and keep me striving to be the best I can for them. I’ve created a short video with some of the moments that mean so much to me, and I hope it resonates with anyone out there who’s ever been a mentor, a guide, or someone who makes a difference—whether in a classroom, at work, or in life. Gratitude isn’t just a two-way street; it’s a cycle. When we lift each other up, we all grow together. #Gratitude #Teaching #Mentorship #MakingADifference #Growth #Community #Inspiration #Impact #Appreciationvvv

Unlocking Potential in Every Student, A Simple Way to Earn Respect in the Classroom 📚 Engaging with young people in a meaningful way starts before a single word is spoken. When I step into a classroom, I start by shaking hands, exchanging names, and acknowledging each person in the room. Before we dive in, I take a moment to thank them for how they’ve shown up, ready to engage, and open. We set ground rules together: respect, kindness, active listening, asking questions, and keeping it real. These aren’t just guidelines—they’re commitments we make to each other to make the time meaningful. My goal? To plant a seed. To inspire even one person to shift their mindset or see their potential. Because we’re all there for the same reason: to enhance our lives and grow into the best versions of ourselves. This approach has led to some incredible transformations, and I’m grateful every day for the chance to be part of it. 🌱 #InspiringTheNextGeneration #YouthEmpowerment #Teachers #Education #Motivation #GrowthMindset #Educators

Recently, I had a conversation with my 12-year-old nephew that gave me pause. He confided in me that he was feeling down because a girl turned him down when he asked her out. Initially, I chuckled—after all, he's just a kid; only 12 ! But then it hit me hard. Are we unintentionally burdening our children with adult emotions and pressures? Social media seems to have fast-forwarded their childhood, exposing them to expectations and rejections far beyond their years. It's as if their playground now includes navigating complex relationship dynamics and managing online personas before they've even mastered long division. Real education, one that is based on values, seems to be missing today. How many youngsters would without hesitating give up their bus seat for an elderly person or a physically challenged person? These acts of kindness and respect are as crucial as any lesson in algebra or history. In a world obsessed with grades and achievements, we often overlook the importance of teaching life skills. How to cope with failure, how to treat others with respect, how to handle disappointments—these lessons are just as vital as algebra and history. Real education should emphasize values and ideas alongside core subjects. When faced with a problem, it's often our ability to cope and our moral compass that guide us, not just our academic knowledge. Life itself is an exam, but its syllabus isn't always taught in the classroom. I believe it's time to rethink our educational priorities. As parents, educators, and mentors, it's on us to nurture the next generation not just academically, but as compassionate and resilient individuals. Our children deserve an education that prepares them not just for exams, but for life itself. I'm curious to hear your thoughts. What values do you think should be at the core of education today? Let's start a conversation in the comments below. Together, let's shape a brighter future for our youth—one where they thrive academically and emotionally. A Teacher's Impact Goes Beyond the Classroom 🎓✨ As I reflect on Teacher's Day, I am reminded of a story that shaped my understanding of the true value of teaching and mentorship. Years ago, there was a young boy in a small town. He was bright but shy, often lost in the crowd, unsure of his potential. His parents worked hard, but they couldn’t give him the guidance he needed to pursue his dreams. School was his only escape—a place where he felt safe but unseen. Then came Mrs. Sharma, his 9th-grade teacher, who saw something no one else had. During a class discussion, she noticed that while others were quick to answer, this boy’s eyes were filled with curiosity, even though he never raised his hand. One day, after class, she called him over and said, “You have a gift. The way you think, the way you observe, it’s special. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” That small sentence was the turning point. From that day on, the boy started participating, reading voraciously, and pushing himself academically. Mrs. Sharma not only nurtured his intellect but also his confidence. She spent extra hours helping him prepare for exams, guiding him through college applications, and, most importantly, teaching him to believe in himself. That boy went on to become a successful engineer, contributing to meaningful projects that help society. But he never forgot the one person who changed his life forever—Mrs. Sharma. For him, Teacher's Day isn’t just a day of appreciation; it’s a day to remember the person who believed in him when he couldn’t believe in himself. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about shaping futures, lifting spirits, and instilling a belief in endless possibilities. To all the teachers and mentors out there: Thank you for your patience, your wisdom, and your kindness. You are the cornerstone of every success story, and your influence reaches far beyond the classroom. #TeachersDay #Gratitude #Mentorship #LifelongLearning #Inspiration

Early Learning school leaders, when I started working with PreK students, there was a heated debate among the staff. Some believed 3-year-olds should only recognize 13 letters, while others supported a “letter of the week” approach, always in ABC order (as our curriculum was set up). Our approach was a little different when I taught kindergarten. We reviewed all the letters and sounds daily, but we focused first on continuous sounds like m, s, and f when deciding the order of introduction. I also leaned on what my mother taught me—long before the Science of Reading was readily available to folks—and I only recently realized, after hearing "Sold a Story," that some teachers were encouraging students to guess words through cueing. By October, most of our students knew all their letters and sounds. We used rhythm, music, and kinesthetic movement to help them remember. The infamous “LMNOP” being lumped together as one "letter" convinced me that ABC order wasn’t the most effective way to teach recognition. The ABC song was a good starting point, but we mixed up the letters to ensure students truly knew them and weren’t just imitating the song. Once students had a strong letter-sound foundation, we increased opportunities for them to communicate through writing. Over time, their spelling evolved from a mix of upper and lowercase letters (sometimes missing vowels) to something closer to conventional spelling—a beautiful process to watch as they grew. What really changed my thinking was seeing how our students connected to letters when we introduced them in small groups, focusing on patterns—like curves and straight lines—and personalizing the experience by using letters from their own names. These shifts helped students connect more deeply with the material. How do you approach letter recognition at your school? Have you stuck with ABC order, or do you do something different? #EarlyLearning #Edchat #Kindergarten #LiteracyMatters #EducationalLeadership #SchoolLeadership #Edupreneur

A CANDLE LOSES NOTHING BY LIGHTING ANOTHER... 🕯 I have the privilege of spending most of my time engaging amazing students and staff teams. Here are 10 tips I think have been helpful when working with young people but definitley extends to people of all ages. I hope at least one of these can help in your personal or professional life! 💡 1. Welcome them with a smile, warmth and fit in a handshake if appropriate 😁 2. Get to know their names of your people and don't forget to use them 3. Respectfully share your promise to them and communicate your expectations from them - ask them for their agreement by show of hands or a yes or something! 🙋🏿♂️ 4. Share something about yourself before you ask them to share about themselves 5. Ask for their views by name, especially those that are a little quiet 😶 6. Ensure you have some connection with them before you correct them - you can lose them for good if you jump into correction mode prematurely 7. Please be authentic sincere and genuine! They can smell you a mile off and will 100% let you know they're not feeling your vibe! Authenticity builds trust and helps to create safe space for honest reflections. 😇 8. Be confident and humble enough to say you don't know the answer to a question if you don't know and offer to get back to them with an answer rather than waffle some nonsense to sound like you know what you're talking about when you clearly don't! 🙈 9. When the session is over tell them how much you enjoyed engaging them and ask them for any feedback if appropriate. Usually there are 10 tips but I've done 9. If you have any to add to my list please free to comment your tips below! 👇🏿 Always a pleasure working with these groups. Wishing these Year 11 Greenford High boys every success in their GCSEs. 🫶🏿 Comment 'ENGAGE' if you're interested in having these groups for your students! 🤳🏿 #focusmode #student #speaker #mentor #youngpeople #selfdevelopment #selfdiscovery #exams #education #self-belief #school #youngpeople #teacher #engage

As educators, we know that one of the most profound ways to impart knowledge and values is by being role models. Yet, how often do we intentionally carry this awareness into our daily interactions with students? We’re constantly trying to get them to crack that tricky math formula or finally grasp a science concept (and let's face it, that is a huge responsibility!). But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that who we are in the classroom speaks volumes to our students. They aren’t just watching us—they're learning from us, even when we think they’re not. As this new session begins, let's be deliberate in what we bring into the classroom. Beyond the content, let’s live the values that resonate deeply with our students: H.E.A.R.T. #Honesty #Empathy #Adaptability #Resilience #Trustworthiness These are the qualities that stay with them long after the bell rings. We’re not just shaping young minds for tests—we’re preparing them for life. And remember, those small, unscripted moments? They matter just as much as the lesson plan. So if you stumble or draw a blank for a second, relax—it’s all part of the charm. Students don’t need us to be perfect, just present. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be diving deeper into each of these values in separate posts, starting with Honesty. I’d love to hear your thoughts: how do you model these qualities in your classrooms or workplaces? Feel free to share your own stories, experiences, or insights. Let’s keep this conversation going—together, we can inspire each other to be the best role models we can be! Here’s to a great session, one full of laughter, learning, and lots of growth—for them and for us! #Education #TeachingValues #HEART #Educators #LearningJourney #ClassroomLeadership #TeacherInspiration #LifelongLearning #RoleModelsInEducation

Happy Teacher's Day! Today, we honor the individuals who dedicate their lives to shaping the minds and futures of the next generation—our teachers. From the classroom to online platforms, they continue to lead, nurture, and inspire with passion and dedication. As the world continues to evolve, teachers face new and unprecedented challenges—be it the shift towards digital learning, adapting to diverse student needs, or navigating an ever-changing educational landscape. Yet, it’s during these times of uncertainty that their role becomes even more crucial. Teachers don’t just teach subjects; they cultivate curiosity, resilience, and character in their students. To all the teachers out there: Your hard work, patience, and determination create ripples of positive change that shape not just individual lives, but entire societies. The future will bring more challenges, but it will also bring greater opportunities for growth, innovation, and impact. You are the foundation of progress, and your influence extends far beyond the classroom. To students: Remember, behind every lesson is a teacher who has invested countless hours preparing, guiding, and mentoring you toward success. Let’s show gratitude, respect, and appreciation for their efforts—not just today, but every day. Recognize their contribution to your journey, and honor them by striving to be the best versions of yourselves. Let’s rise to the challenges of tomorrow together, with teachers leading the way and students following their example of hard work, passion, and persistence. #TeachersDay #Gratitude #Inspiration #RespectForTeachers #FutureLeaders #Empowerment #EducationMatters

Last week, I attended two powerful talks during our Year 12 Retreat, led by Glen Gerreyn and Kath Koschel. I’ve often questioned the lasting impact of visiting speakers; too often, they leave students inspired in the moment, yet we as educators see that spark fade when everyday life resumes. It’s a frustration many of us share—how to move from inspiration to sustained growth? But Glen and Kath showed me how truly transformational these moments can be when they’re more than just inspiring—they’re actionable. Glen emphasised the importance of self-belief and emotional intelligence, challenging students not just to feel motivated but to commit to real change. Kath shared her journey, illustrating the profound power of kindness and resilience. Their messages struck a chord with our students, igniting a tangible shift in the room. Yet, the question remains: how do we transform momentary inspiration into lasting change, especially for teenagers who may find change itself challenging? Here’s what I'm considering: 1️⃣ Reflective Follow-Up: Guiding students to actively reflect on these messages, creating an intentional space to deepen their understanding. 2️⃣ Goal Setting: Encouraging students to set personal, actionable goals inspired by Glen and Kath’s insights, translating reflections into practical steps. 3️⃣ Regular Check-ins: Establishing ongoing sessions where students can share progress, underscoring that commitment is an ongoing journey rather than a one-time decision. 4️⃣ Visible Reminders: Embedding these values visually within the school environment, making kindness, resilience, and commitment an everyday part of school culture. Speakers like Glen and Kath can indeed be catalysts for real growth, but the responsibility falls to us as educators to sustain that impact. When we help students truly commit to change, we can transform those fleeting moments of inspiration into a foundation for a lifetime. #Education #Leadership #CatchtheMiddle #CommitToChange #Kindness #EmotionalIntelligence #Inspiration
