22 US states have Salary History Bans (this includes asking for a breakdown of a candidate's current compensation). To circumvent those laws, some hiring authorities will ask me to disclose my candidate's current compensation breakdown. While some volunteer that information on their own, it's just as unlawful for me, as a recruiter, to ask what a candidate's current compensation is as it is for my clients to. Basing your offer off of someone's current compensation perpetuates the gender & racial wage gap, which is widely regarded as ‘no bueno’. Moral of the story: Pay people well, and give them an offer they'll be excited to accept; not the lowest you can get away with. A happy employee is always a good investment.

I fail to understand why some individuals get upset when faced with the facts: salary delays are unfair, mistreating employees is unacceptable, and withholding settlements is unjust. What employees need in any company is respect and trust. If speaking up for employees' rights upsets someone, that's not our concern. Salary delays are unacceptable, and we deserve respect as human beings. Let's stand up against injustice and say 'no' to unfair practices. I will stand firmly by my principles and will never compromise on what is right. #NoToInjustice #StandUpForYourRights #WorkplaceIsNotFamily #ColleaguesNotFamily #FightForFairness #RightOverMight #JusticeInAction

This week's Question of the Week is about jury duty: My exempt employee was gone for a partial week due to jury duty. Can I reduce this employee's salary? Answer: No. Employers cannot reduce an exempt employee’s salary for jury duty if that employee performs any work during the week they have jury duty. #QotW #QuestionoftheWeek #juryduty #CAemployers #employeepay

A query in general: When someone is serving the notice period, working the full day and yet the management is forcefully keeping him / her on LWP to deduct salary, that's poor and unethical, especially when it’s not documented on the policy. But is it illegal too? What's your opinion? #workethics #workculture #workenvironment

When discussing salary with candidates, remember that salary history bans in places like Minnesota (and other regions) may impact how you handle compensation conversations. You might not be allowed to ask about or consider a candidate's pay history when setting their salary. Stay informed and adjust your approach accordingly! #SalaryTransparency #CompensationStrategy #HiringTips
