The Connectivity Standards Alliance has released Matter 1.3, which includes significant enhancements to support the smart home 🏠 and IoT ecosystem 🌐. Key updates include: Energy and Water Management: • New energy reporting features allow devices to report real-time and historical data on power usage ⚡, helping users manage and reduce their energy consumption. • Support for electric vehicle charging stations 🚗 with features for manual control over charging activities and optimization for lower costs and emissions. • Enhanced water management capabilities with the introduction of leak and freeze detectors, rain sensors 🌧️, and controllable water valves 🚰. Appliance Control Enhancements: Expanded support for major appliances including microwaves, ovens, cooktops, extractor hoods, and laundry dryers, enhancing user control over these devices 🔧. Improved Media Device Interaction: Enhanced features for TVs 📺 and media players, such as better ambient experience interactions, expanded app interactivity, and improved notification handling. User Experience Improvements: Introduction of scenes for synchronized device settings across a home 🏡. Command batching to reduce communication delays and synchronize device responses more effectively ⏱️. Technical and Network Enhancements: Improved network commissioning processes to support Wi-Fi 📶 and Thread, including better error reporting and device capability disclosures. Enhanced synchronization of event timestamps across devices to improve the accuracy of logs and events 📅. Development and Debugging Tools: New tooling to align the Matter SDK with the specification, improving developer experience and promoting greater interoperability among devices 🛠️.
