Can you Lead without Expertise? In this episode of Lead with Less, I get to talk to Emma Bennett, General Manager - Business Transformation at Powerco. Emma shares her journey of becoming a successful leader without relying on expertise. We talk about what this concept means to her, how she’s built a successful career around it, and the strategies she’s developed along the way. I love how Emma challenges conventional wisdom about leadership and expertise, and throughout the episode you will learn how you too can lead effectively, even without being an expert in your field. Key things we talk about: - The importance of curiosity and courage in leadership. - How to leverage team strengths and facilitate their growth. - Strategies for managing teams and driving results without being the subject matter expert. Emma’s story will impact anyone who has ever felt the pressure of needing to know it all. Her approach shows that effective leadership is about guiding and supporting your team, not having all the answers. “You don’t need to be the expert to lead well. What the experts want is someone who can provide direction, listen to their frustrations, and articulate their insights.” How do you lead when you’re not the expert? Share your thoughts below! 👇 For more insights and tips, listen to the full episode – you’ll find the link in the comments. #leadership #leadwithoutexpertise #leadershipdevelopment #leadwithless

In this episode, I had a conversation with Jerry Roberts about the importance of delegating and seeking advice as leaders. As leaders, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking we have to make every decision ourselves. But what if we asked ourselves a simple question: "If I were unavailable and you had to make a decision, what would you do?" What I discovered was eye-opening. Over 80 percent of the time, the people closest to me had the answer I was looking for or even a better answer than what I would have come up with. It's humbling to realize that our team members have valuable insights and perspectives that we may overlook. But here's the thing, when we're faced with a new challenge or transitioning into a higher role, it's natural to feel a sense of uncertainty. We may question our competency, expertise, or knowledge. We don't want to become irrelevant in our leadership. That's the big unspoken secret. That's why it's crucial to embrace the power of delegating and seeking advice. By involving others and valuing their input, we not only empower our team but also enhance our own leadership effectiveness. If you've ever struggled with decision-making or felt unsure about your abilities as a leader, this episode is a must-listen. Join me as Jerry and I dive deeper into the topic and share practical strategies for leveraging the collective wisdom of those around us. #leadership #executive #management #growthmindset #empowerment #teamwork #businessleadership #professionaldevelopment #podcastepisode
