It’s #CleanBeachesWeek!! 🏖🌊🧼 The Clean Beaches Coalition founded this week in 2003 to celebrate beautiful beaches all around the world – and we have some of the very best, right here in Maine 😍🥰 July 4 is the most popular beach day of the entire year, but it also tends to result in the most litter along our shores, so Clean Beaches Week is a helpful reminder to beach-goers about proper beach etiquette. The coalition has set 7 guiding principles which they hope will assist the preservation of the beaches, as well as protect people from the natural hazards that can occur at the shore. Check ‘em out! 1. Leave no trace (what you carry in, carry out) 🎒 2. Move your body (walk, run or swim) 🥽 3. Don’t tread on the dunes (use a designated walkover or pathway) 👟 4. Know your limits (swim, surf and boat safely) ⛵ 5. You are what you eat (eat healthy seafood) 🦞 6. Feed your mind (read a book) 📚 7. Here’s how to spot them and keep safe: 👀 Look for Differences: Riptides can appear as a channel of churning, choppy water. Unlike the surrounding water, they might look darker or have a different wave pattern.  🏊♂️ Avoid the Pull: If you're caught in a riptide, don’t swim against it. Where Can You Have a Beach Bonfire in Florida? Most Florida beaches don't allow bonfires during the summer months due to the nesting season of sea turtles. However, there are a few exceptions where beach bonfires are permitted, but with strict regulations and fees. Here's a quick overview: Pinellas County: Fort De Soto Park is the only place where bonfires are allowed, but ground fires are prohibited. Campfires must be contained in a container with sides and a bottom. Walton County: You can have a bonfire on the beach (Gulf Front Property) for one night with a $50 permit. Flagler County: Beach fires are allowed, but you need a permit between May 1st and October 31st. Permits must be requested at least 3 days in advance. Martin County: Permits are available for beach fires during the non-turtle nesting season (November to February). Permits must be issued at least 48 hours before the scheduled fire time. Duval County: Beach fires are allowed in Atlantic Beach with a $25 permit, available from November to February. Neptune and Jacksonville beaches don't allow beach fires, and charcoal is prohibited on Neptune beach. Nassau County: Beach fires are prohibited from May 1st to October 31st due to sea turtle nesting season. Permits are required for fires between November 1st and April 30th. Remember: Always check local regulations and obtain necessary permits before building a beach bonfire in Florida.
