Over the past month, we co-hosted a luncheon with our partners over at the Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank while discussing the increasing appetite for exposure to the Southeast Asia venture capital landscape. Together with our panelists - Choon Hock Wee (Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank), Moh Siong Sim (Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank), Vicknesh R Pillay (TNB AURA), and Linus Stigsby (WICapital), the discussion led to global capital flows and how ASEAN consistently ranks as a key investment hotspot across all sectors. With SEA’s investment landscape continuing to thrive, it is a premier destination for global capital, and we look forward to fostering continued growth and innovation in the region. Thank you, Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank for such a successful event!

Lunch with King Leong, HK Invest Global Head of Financial Services, Saikit Chairman of Malaysia Venture Capital & Private Equity Association and Dato’ William Ng Chairman of Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA). We discussed on potential regional cooperation between Malaysia and Hong Kong; deploying mainland China funds to Malaysia for ESG investment, matching HK-China LP with Malaysia GP and VC, and interestingly enough allowing companies to settle their international trade using token. Exciting times ahead with this new development and connection.

Super helpful reading the big picture on private capital in #SE #Asia - thanks PitchBook. Four of the funds I work with focus on emerging markets - two include SE Asia and one is focused exclusively on S and SE Asia - so this is highly relevant to me and my colleagues. A few bullet points: - Many countries in the region sport fast-#growing and #diverse #economies that provide a range of sectors for investment. - Because Southeast Asia is not a single market, and government policies and regulations vary widely from country to country, much of the region’s activity is centered in #Singapore. - Though the VC market is significantly more active than the PE market in Southeast Asia, VC within the region lacks #growth-stage capital.

SGX Group, represented by our CFO Yao Loong Ng, participated in the Invest ASEAN Conference in Melbourne alongside other ASEAN Exchanges. The conference, jointly organised by Macquarie Group and the ASEAN Exchanges, aimed to showcase the attractive investment opportunities within ASEAN for institutional investors in Australia. The event complements the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit 2024 (held from 4 to 6 March), commemorating 50 years of partnership between ASEAN and Australia. Key takeaways: 1️⃣ ASEAN Opportunities: The ASEAN markets offer diverse and complementary opportunities for investors, catering to different needs and risk profiles. At SGX Securities, we facilitate direct participation in the growth of ASEAN markets by providing access to an expansive suite of instruments. 30% of our listed companies outside Singapore originate from Southeast Asia, and we offer a selection of ETFs focused on ASEAN markets. Additionally, the Thailand-Singapore DR Linkage, launched last year, further enables investors to access blue-chip companies in Thailand from Singapore. 2️⃣ Sustainable Growth: ASEAN's journey towards a carbon-neutral future necessitates significant investment in infrastructure. To this end, we actively support listed companies in their transformation and growth journey, enabling them to capitalise on opportunities in this space. 3️⃣ Financing the New Economy: A growing number of ASEAN startups and unicorns are emerging to cater to the region's young population and growing economy. Our ecosystem of strategic partners and bespoke solutions addresses companies' capital needs across various growth stages. Volatile Chinese markets have unsurprisingly been a tough sell for private banks in 2024, but a Temasek-backed private markets manager has come up with an intriguing solution. SeaTown, founded in Singapore in 2009, sees the “China plus 1” strategy adopted by many companies to diversify their supply chains into ASEAN, as an important thematic investment opportunity for private wealth clients to consider. The move is part of a broader pivot by SeaTown, which is wholly owned by Temasek’s asset management subsidiary Seviora Holdings, towards raising funds from the private wealth and institutional investment channels. Previously, US$4 billion in AUM SeaTown had only invested funds on behalf of its Singapore state-owned parent. Featuring Chi Kit Chai at SeaTown Holdings International
