Trade Deadline is Fast Approaching

Leaders who can't lead because of who they think they are or what they think they were are a heck of a problem. Oklahoma State University star running back Ollie Gordon got stopped for driving under the influence recently. The media understandably asked his coach Mike "I'm a man. I'm 40" Gundy about what penalties Gordon would face on the field and Gundy said none because when it came to drinking too much and driving "I probably done that a thousand times." In fact, he actually joked that Gordon would miss half the season because he wouldn't play when OSU's defense was on the field ( 🏈 coach joke). So, because Gundy has done bad things too, he feels he can't sanction Gordon in any way. Which means either a) DUIs are now fully acceptable on the team or b) only DUIs are acceptable on the team, but players committing other misdemeanors and future felonies will face sanctions, or c) no off the field actions by players will face team discipline. Leaders, suck it up and lead. Teach life lessons if needed. If you have a hangup about your past (or present), deal with it and then do the right thing in dealing with what's in front of you--making your organization and people the best it can be.
