https://lnkd.in/ggbuV6fG My name is Thomas and I am part of the Coventry Youth Activists. We are campaigning to ensure disabled people live a good life especially online. I have been doing a bit of research and came across you. I really like the work you do and wondered if you would like to be on of our allies? We have just created an Ally Pack. The Ally Pack is for organisations to sign up to to find out how they can stand in solidarity with us and our campaign to raise awareness of online disability hate. Hate speech towards disabled people is not only the least reported it is also underreported. This is due to the disabled community feeling they are not always able to stand up for themselves. Some of us feel our voices are not respected. Also we may not have strong networks or connections that can offer support when issues arise online We believe allies can support the disabled community to be empowered. We recognise that at times the voices of the non-disabled are listened to more and we want to tap into this power and potential. The online disabled community is growing but we need more people to stand in solidarity with us Our Ally Pack will give you tools and tips so that you can play an active role in reporting online hate speech towards disabled people You can sign up to our Ally Pack here https://lnkd.in/eW9cZHrF Also could you share it within your workplace and networks. This will really help CYA to grow their allies If you have any questions or thoughts let me know Thomas Ramsey PS you still got time to register to come to the online gathering https://lnkd.in/ggbuV6fG this is a great opportunity for schools colleges businesses over organisations to share my groupies campaign

🗨️ Challenging Stigma and Embracing Equality In a powerful conversation with top disability advocate Julie Harris, we discussed an essential truth: Julie Harris shared, “Stigma around disabilities holds us back. Accommodation is a legal right, not a charity.” I couldn’t agree more. As I added, “It’s time to shift our mindset—let’s challenge stigma and normalize accommodations. Everyone deserves equal access and opportunity.” Let’s work together to dismantle outdated beliefs and ensure that accessibility is seen as a fundamental right, not a special favor. By changing the narrative, we pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable world for all. 🔍 Join the conversation and be part of the movement towards real change. 🇬🇧 Disabled People Must Be A Priority In Elections, Say Stars 🇬🇧 The disability equality charity Scope launches its “manifesto for an equal future” today (16 April 2024), as it calls for all political parties to make disabled people a priority. New research from the charity demonstrates how disabled people feel sidelined by politicians. In response, high-profile disabled people and campaigners – including the charity’s chair and top music executive Sir Robin Milla, actor and comedian Rosie Jones, comedian and TV host Adam Hills, and Paralympic medallist and TV presenter Ade Adepitan, along with Scope ambassadors Dr Shani Dhanda, Ben Elton, Sophie Morgan, Samantha Renke, and Lee Ridley – have joined with Scope to send an open letter to all party leaders urging them to prioritise the UK’s 16.1 million disabled people. This week, we marked the International Day of People with Disabilities, an important moment to reflect on the challenges faced by disabled individuals in the UK and around the world. As we close this week of awareness and advocacy, we want to shine a spotlight on an often-overlooked issue: disabled people are disproportionately impacted by poverty, largely due to the extra costs associated with managing their disabilities. On average, households with at least one disabled person face £583 of additional costs each month. These costs create barriers to financial stability and deepen inequalities. At Scene Change, we believe it’s crucial to amplify awareness about the multifaceted challenges disabled people encounter daily. Together, through understanding, advocacy, and action, we can work towards creating a fairer and more inclusive society. #IDPWD #Inclusion #DisabilityAwareness #Equality #Belonging #SceneChange #FactFriday

💔 Women with disabilities face exclusion in healthcare, education, and employment. They are often left out of decisions that shape their lives. For decades, Mama Cash has funded grassroots movements fighting for their rights. We’ve given over €6.1 million in grants to organizations led by and for disabled women and girls. This ongoing support has sparked big changes, opening doors to better healthcare, stronger policies, and legal protections for women with disabilities. 💪🔗 Discover how our funding supports disability justice and creates real impact in ‘CHANGE THAT LASTS: 40 YEARS OF IMPACT’. https://lnkd.in/d-dJmXXF #DisabilityJustice #FeministFunding #InclusiveSociety #MamaCash #ChangeThatLasts

July is disability pride month. I hope organizations use this time to reflect and ponder over their procedures, processes, and policies that perpetuate ableism in their workplaces. I often find that those who work within areas whose mission is to support, foster, and create inclusive environments through their advocacy work are the gatekeepers. Ironically, I've worked in environments designed to help disabled students but lack the same support for their disabled staff. For those who can make impactful changes at their organization, I ask that you not "other" disabled people because disability is a part of the human life cycle. Invite disabled people to the table and ask for their feedback/input. Disabled people must be included in the decision-making process. This is how you form inclusion. Too often, disabled folks are left out of the process until the end. Disabilty should never be an afterthought. #IAmDisabled #DisabledAndLiving #Accompliances #CoConspirators #InclusionIsTheSolution #TogetherWeCan
