Older Prostate Cancer Patients Are Being Overtreated 🔗 https://bit.ly/3CzEhet “Use of active surveillance has increased over the last 15 years for men with low-risk prostate cancer, and it is now the most common treatment for these men,” said Timothy Daskivich, MD, director of Urologic Oncology Research for the Cedars-Sinai Department of Urology and corresponding author of the new study. “This approach allows these patients to avoid the risks of urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction and other potential side effects of surgery and radiation therapy.”

🔬 New review article from The #FASEBJournal on uterine carcinosarcoma 🔬 Uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) is a rare, highly aggressive gynecological cancer with poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Standard therapies like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy have high recurrence rates, leaving much to be understood about how UCS progresses. This new review, titled "Uterine carcinosarcoma: Unraveling the role of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in progression and therapeutic potential," come from experts at the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Pathology. It dives deep into the pivotal role of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in UCS progression and highlights emerging therapeutic strategies targeting EMT, offering hope for improved treatment outcomes. Read the full review to gain a comprehensive understanding of UCS, its molecular drivers, and potential future treatments: https://bit.ly/3Aq0jiW #UterineCarcinosarcoma #CancerResearch #GynecologicalCancer #EMT #FASEB #ScientificResearch #BiomedicalScience

Positive long-term (5yr) transplant-free survival data from a multi-year follow-on study to the ELPIS I Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating stem cell therapy Lomecel-BTM in rare pediatric disease HLHS were featured in an oral presentation at the Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society (CHSS) 51st Annual Meeting yesterday (Oct 27th). https://lnkd.in/gs5PhRsm Key findings include: • 5-year post-Glenn procedure Kaplan-Meier survival was 100% in patients treated with Lomecel-B™ in ELPIS I, with none requiring heart transplant. This compared to 83% (95% CI= [77.4, 89.3]) transplant-free survival in the SVR trial through 5 years post-Glenn surgery, and a 5.2% (95% CI= [2.0, 8.3]) heart transplantation rate. • No Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) were reported during the study. • No Lomecel-BTM related safety issues were reported. • These findings support the use of Lomecel-BTM as a potential adjunct to HLHS reconstruction surgery to improve transplant-free survival. #HLHS #celltherapy #stemcells #regenerativemedicine

Two weeks ago, Valencia hosted the National Congress of the Gynecologic Oncology and Breast Pathology Section (ONCOsego) of the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics. I had the honor of actively participating with a presentation and a poster titled: "Development and Validation of a Test for Breast Cancer Detection Through Volatile Organic Compounds in Urine." It was an excellent opportunity to discuss how The Blue Box can contribute to early breast cancer detection and enhance clinical management. I am sincerely grateful to all the attendees for their questions and the interest shown in The Blue Box Biomedical Solutions. We remain committed to innovation and making early diagnosis accessible and precise! 💙 I would also like to highlight the work of the SPAIN-GOG research network and the presentation by Dr. Isaac Cebrecos from Hospital Clínic on "Quality Parameters in Breast Cancer Surgery," which emphasized: 📌 The importance of not exceeding six weeks from breast cancer diagnosis and staging to surgery. 📌 The need to identify limiting factors in each hospital to design strategies that optimize care pathways. 📌 The relevance of accrediting specialized units by the Spanish Society of Senology and Breast Pathology as a crucial step in ensuring high-quality care. 💡 The congress was immensely enriching, offering valuable insights into the latest advancements, ongoing research, and the challenges we must still address. #OncoSEGO2024 #HealthInnovation #EarlyDetection #TheBlueBox #BreastCancer #AdvancesInOncology

A recent multicenter retrospective study has defined crucial lymph node resection thresholds for pancreatic cancer originating from intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN). The study found that resecting at least 20 lymph nodes can notably enhance survival outcomes in patients, with optimal numbers specified for various surgical procedures: 20 for pancreatoduodenectomy, 23 for distal pancreatectomy, and 25 for total pancreatectomy. These findings, published in Annals of Surgery, could refine surgical guidelines and improve prognostic accuracy in pancreatic cancer treatment. Prior studies often suggested lower thresholds; this data emphasizes a higher benchmark for effective nodal analysis.
