America’s Mental Health Is Worsening. Special Urgent-Care Clinics Step In. Mental-health urgent-care sites are proliferating across the U.S. to treat the spiraling numbers of children and adults who need mental-health care and ease a shortage of therapists that has caused many people to wait months for appointments or go to the nearest emergency room to find help. The sites are starting to change the face of mental-health treatment, offering a much-needed alternative to emergency departments—long the first point of contact for people in mental-health straits—that have become strained by an increase in visits during the pandemic. More than 20 mental-health urgent-care centers have opened in the past year alone from Colorado to Virginia. A letter published in the journal Psychiatric Services in 2021 identified 77 of the clinics across the U.S.

Mental healthcare in America is a maze — by design. Imagine a sprawling house in which every room, doorway, and hall passage was designed by a different architect. Doorways don't connect. Staircases lead to nowhere. Rooms are cut off from each other. That's how reporter Will James describes our complicated system for treating people with severe mental illness – a system that, almost by design, loses patients with psychosis to an endless loop between the streets, jail, clinics, courts and a shrinking number of hospital beds. Lost Patients is a deeply-reported, six-part docuseries examining the difficulties of treating serious mental illness through the lens of one city's past, present and future. With real-life testimonials from patients, families, and professionals on the front lines, Lost Patients provides a real, solutions-oriented look at how we got stuck here...and what we might do to break free. Lost Patients is a joint production of KUOW and Seattle Times. It is distributed by the NPR Network. https://lnkd.in/g_wz3g3n

This is what tribes have done since time immemorial. It’s great to see the remembering that we are all connected and therefore our mental well-being is connected to our wellbeing in all aspects of our lives but the credit goes to the ancient wisdom and indigenous ancestors for discovering this ground breaking 24/7 mental health treatmrent 1000’s of years ago. At Transforming Tribes Tribes we are honouring these rememberings and bringing them back into modern context to demystify the ways in which we engage with ancient wisdom, how it relates to and supports outcomes such as burn out prevention/recovery, productivity, mental health wellbeing, healthy boundaries and communication, diversity and inclusion, employee engagement and retention, leadership development, life satisfaction and so, so much more. We need a modern-day version of what it means to have an embodied experience of truly functioning as ‘tribe’, we need a deep and meaningful relationship with authenticity, connection, intimacy (deep trust) and vulnerability and direction on how to redefine our definition of what we value and how we find meaning in our work, our lives and our existence on this planet. We do not feel mentally ill when we feel deeply connected, heard, seen and valued. Both cannot exist simultaneously in someone’s being in a given moment. We are incapable of feeling disconnected, depressed etc when our purpose and meaning are alive in us. It isn’t rocket science and certainly is not a new concept … it’s how our ancestors did it since, well, forever.
Exciting news - South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation plans to establish a UNIQUE 24/7 community mental health service. This groundbreaking initiative will focus on each individual's life story, needs, and aspirations—going beyond just clinical diagnoses. The aim is to build trust between professionals and clients, offering a wider range of interventions that truly matter to people's lives. Key features of the service include: A day function led by peer support workers, offering clinical schedules, social inclusion, and activities. Intensive crisis support, with local guest beds, designed to provide a ‘softer landing’ for those in need. Creative and assertive engagement for individuals at greatest risk of relapse. A holistic approach with therapies and social interventions, including support in areas like employment, housing, and more. This project is set to transform lives and improve the quality of mental health care in the community. We’re looking forward to seeing this vision come to life! Interesting concept of urgent care mental health clinics. Demand for mental-health treatment has surged since the onset of the pandemic, especially among children and adolescents. Yet a shortage of therapists means emergency departments don’t always have beds available, and their care is expensive—$2,264 for a patient’s visit by one estimate. Look to an integrated advanced primary care solution that includes behavioral health counseling, it works! #vbc #advancedprimarycare #valuebasedcare Premise Health Marathon Health CareATC ChenMed Alignment Health VillageMD

May may be ending, but let's keep the conversation going. Mental health awareness isn't limited to a single month—it's a year-round journey of support, understanding, and compassion. Arise is a patient-focused, physician-directed therapy center, with locations across North Mississippi. Our team provides comprehensive medication and therapy services to address mental health needs for an array of patients. We offer appointments with our psychiatrist, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, and therapists, who can treat the full spectrum of behavioral health disorders in person or via telehealth. Arise eliminates the typical waits or frustrations with appointment times while maintaining Physician-direction of all therapy services. Gone are the days of therapy at one location and medication management at another. Comprehensive care is what we do. Let's break the stigma! #theraphyyoudeserve #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters"

This recent New York Times article sheds light on the dire state of psychiatric care in our country, where too many individuals are left without the proper support they need. 25% of people experiencing homelessness in the U.S. suffer from severe mental illness, compared to just 6% of the general population. This reality hits close to home for us at Halo Mental Health. At Halo, we are dedicated to closing these gaps in care. Our team takes a patient-centered approach, offering comprehensive, accessible mental health services that cater to the unique needs of each individual. We begin with a comprehensive assessment from a interdisciplinary team and then make a practical treatment plan, which can range from outpatient group therapy to individual telehealth psychiatric services. We are committed to being part of the solution to this nationwide crisis. The mental health system may be strained, but we believe there's a path forward. By focusing on compassionate, evidence-based care, we aim to provide real solutions for individuals and families in need. This is more than just a mission for us—it’s a commitment to reshaping the future of mental health care in the U.S. #MentalHealthCrisis #MentalHealthAwareness #CompassionateCare #HaloMentalHealth #ChangingLives https://lnkd.in/gmvJm5a3
