🚶♂️ Stepping Up for Children’s Mental Health: 310,000 Steps in July! 🚶♂️ I’m excited/nervous to announce that I’ve signed up for a charity challenge in July to support Place2Be an incredible organisation dedicated to improving children’s mental health. My goal is to complete 310,000 steps throughout the month. One in five children and young people now have a diagnosable mental health issue. That’s six children in every classroom with a condition like depression or anxiety. Place2Be is the UK’s leading school-based mental health charity, providing support to children, families, and school-based staff when they need it most. Every step I take will help raise awareness and funds for this essential cause. I’ll be tracking my progress and sharing updates along the way. Your encouragement and support would mean the world to me and the children benefiting from Place2Be’s services. Please help me support Place2Be’s vital work, and together we can make a real difference to children’s mental health and ensure that children don’t have to face mental health problems alone. If you’d like to support this cause, no matter how small, please consider donating through my JustGiving page linked below. Please share this post to help spread the word! If you would like to learn more about Place2Be, please visit Place2Be - www.place2be.org.uk Together, we can make a difference! #CharityChallenge #Place2Be #MentalHealth #SupportChildren #310000Steps #walking #charity #childrensmentalhealth #fundraising

It's that time of year again! Yes, I have signed up to Walk the Talk to help make a difference for young people who are struggling with their mental health. I've experienced first hand the struggles that young people can face, and it's so important that they have support available; so this opportunity to help is personal! Last year, I walked every day in May, in 2 countries, in 3 cites, and up (and down) 6 maunga, all for a total of 207km, but most important almost $2,900. As always, I want more (terrible attitude when it comes to a buffet), so rather than just 31 minutes, I will make sure it will be a minimum of 5km! I was so amazed by the people that supported this cause (thank you again), and many who shared their personal stories, about family, friends or even themselves and their journey's with mental health. And, yes, I will aim to something epic near the end of the month. Mind you, how can I top last years effort of walking 31km across Tamaki Makaurau, up and down 6 of it's most beautiful maunga! So, get ready to donate! Don't worry I'll do all the work, how's that for a trade! Young people reaching out to Youthline for support spend an average of 31 minutes chatting with a Youthline counsellor online. That's why for every day in May I'll be exercising for 31 minutes to help raise awareness and much-needed funds to let young people know they aren't alone. Every year, thousands of young New Zealanders reach out to Youthline for support during some of the toughest moments of their lives. Please make a donation today to help support me to Walk the Talk and make a difference for young people struggling with their mental health. #walkthetalk #mentalhealth #youthline https://lnkd.in/gVeErXfn

What does success look like to you? We recently spoke to one of our instructors, Sarah, about her experiences; seeing the children in her care succeed. “One of the challenges we face as instructors is to change how both the teachers and the young people see success. For a teacher, they might think it is a success if all the children reach the top of the climbing wall and a child might feel like a failure if they didn't get as high as their peers. We work on the basis of the child's choice. They choose what level of challenge they are comfortable with, which builds trust. A child can try and then step back and try again. As they build confidence, they can push themselves a bit more. This approach promotes positive mental health and helps reduce anxiety.” Our instructors care for every child, and each person is a treasured individual, which is the mindset across our teams. Proud to have participated in the GLOW event organized by Mental Health UK to raise awareness about the urgent need for education around the mental health crisis. The event took place across London, Birmingham, and Edinburgh, and we walked a total of 20km for this incredible cause. Thanks to the generosity of participants and supporters, we raised almost £120,000! 🙌 The power of fundraising is real, and here's what this support will help to achieve: 💙 £5 could provide materials for art therapy sessions. 💙 £10 could allow 60 people to access the Mental Health & Money Advice website, offering vital resources to improve their financial and mental health. 💙 £50 could train 25 educators to support young people with mental health resilience. 💙 £100 could help two people join a peer support group for a year, offering them acceptance and reassurance. 💙 £500 could ensure someone facing mental health and financial struggles gets ongoing tailored support, potentially saving them an average of £2,500. A huge thank you to Mental Health UK for their incredible work in spreading awareness and making a real difference. 💙 For those looking to learn more or access mental health resources, you can download valuable materials here: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eeX472sr #MentalHealthMatters #FundraisingForACause #GLOW #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthUK #SupportAndSolidarity

In 2020, 1 in 6 young people experienced a mental health problem. That's up from 1 in 9 in 2017. It's clear that, now more than ever, schools need to be offering the right support to children and young people to ensure mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. We asked you what you thought was needed to better support children's mental health, and 36% cited improved funding as the main priority. But there will never be change without action. So we're breaking out our walking shoes to take on 1000 miles across our teams at Simply Education and MCG Healthcare, to raise money and awareness for Mind. In 2022-23, Mind responded to 130,973 queries to their support and information helplines, and helped countless young people navigate and overcome mental health struggles. So now it's our turn to show support. Help us drive real change and support Mind by leaving a donation - no matter how small: https://bit.ly/3IAaPo1 #mentalhealth #Mind #childrenswellbeing #education #charity

You Can Flourish is Warwickshire’s only dedicated mentoring service for girls aged 10 to 18 aiming to nurture self-esteem and mental wellbeing. Through one-to-one mentoring programmes and bespoke workshops for parents and caregivers, they help young girls live to their full potential and get to where they want to be. Last year, 88% of girls saw improvements in wellbeing and 100% of teachers and parents felt better equipped to support girls. There is an escalating crisis in young people’s mental health, and You Can Flourish are experiencing unprecedented demand, with referrals up 125%. Their IT systems aren’t fit-for-purpose in a time where they need to scale. They will use our funding to implement a CRM system to increase efficiency and strengthen income to unlock growth. Over the weekend, I took part in the 54-mile British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride to raise money for the fantastic mental health charity Mind. While the journey itself was certainly a physical challenge, riding across the finish line was a stark reminder that while I could sit and take the weight off my legs, those struggling with their mental health don’t have such privileges. They face carrying their mental load around with them 24/7. What stands out most to me is not just the amount of money raised through such events, but the impact these funds can have. For me, it’s about taking meaningful action to create environments where people, particularly young people and men, feel comfortable discussing their mental health. We need spaces that resonate with the younger generation, aligning with their ways of interaction and societal norms. I’ve watched in admiration as spaces like the The Man Cave UK in Milton Keynes and Selfspace in London continue to grow, providing welcoming and supportive environments for productive conversations about mental health. We simply need more of these modern solutions that go beyond traditional (and quite frankly box-ticking) approaches. It's important to move past empty social media gestures that simply tell men to "talk more." Instead, we should focus on creating real, accessible spaces where everybody can feel genuinely safe to open up. Awareness is key, action is vital. Do you agree? What do you think is needed to genuinely encourage people to 'talk more/open up/[insert generic viral virtue signal here]'? #mentalhealth #mind #nhs

Attention Teachers! 👋 Do you have any students who: Have low attendance levels as a result of social anxieties or chronic confidence issues? Have experienced trauma or attachment issues that make it difficult for them to engage constructively with teachers or peers? In recent years we have seen an increasing number of young people experiencing significant mental health challenges, preventing them from attending education, having the confidence to apply for employment, or in some cases even leaving their bedrooms. That’s why we’re working in partnership with the NHS local Integrated Care Board to reach those in mainstream education struggling with mental health issues. 🙌 If you know someone aged 11-18 who could benefit from one-to-one support from therapeutically trained and qualified mentors, please see our website to make a referral - https://lnkd.in/gfDrkkap · #swindon #wiltshire #nonprofit #charity #therapeuticmentoring #youthmentorship #mentoringyouth #mentoring #swindonmentors #theplatformproject #youthmentalhealth #mentalhealthsupport
