User experience (UX) is the exciting place to be. But behind the scenes, information architecture (IA) can make or break the UX. Information architecture is the less glamorous sibling of UX. The two should work in partnership. When they don't, you'll end up with products that are inflexible, difficult to use, and painful to update. There are two main components to IA: 🔸How information is structured behind the scenes 🔸How that information is presented to users STRUCTURE When thinking about the structure, you'll need to consider: 🔸What are the "things" that you need to represent? This will depend very much on your context, but could include: pages, articles, people, products etc 🔸How can you describe each thing? Often known as metadata (data about data), these are the fields like name, category, date etc that will be used to sort, search and present the "things". 🔸What are the rules for the metadata? Are there fixed vocabularies? Can you choose more than one item from each vocabulary? 🔸Can "things" be in a hierarchy? Or do they all sit at the same level? PRESENTATION This is where we start to encroach on UX, but still from an IA perspective. 🔸How will people browse the things? 🔸How will they search the things? 🔸How will they filter and sort the search results? 🔸How will they find related things? 🔸How will they add new things efficiently? At this point it's more about concepts than real designs. Those ideas will drive the Structure conversation too. Get the structure wrong and the presentation will be more difficult than it needs to be. 🔸🔸🔸 I'm Mark Berthelemy. Using Data-Driven Design to Enhance UX. Design backed by data isn’t just smart—it’s transformative. Here’s how we use data-driven design to elevate the user experience: Identify user pain points ⤷ Data reveals where users struggle, allowing us to solve the real issues. Make informed design choices ⤷ Every element is backed by user behavior, not assumptions. Refine with A/B testing ⤷ Testing designs ensures we optimize for what users actually respond to. Perfect use of whitespace ⤷ Data shows how clutter impacts usability. We use whitespace intentionally, giving our designs room to breathe. Enhance engagement ⤷ Data-driven insights show how users interact, helping us craft intuitive, engaging experiences that keep them coming back. Create personalized experiences ⤷ With data, we tailor the design to fit different user segments, ensuring everyone feels understood. Drive conversions ⤷ By analyzing user flows, we reduce friction in key areas—whether that’s through simpler navigation or smoother checkouts. Predict future behavior ⤷ Data allows us to anticipate user needs, delivering a seamless experience that evolves with them. Using data isn’t just about numbers → It’s about designing with purpose and clarity. Our approach? We let data guide every decision to ensure the design is not only beautiful but also meaningful. Perfect whitespace, personalized flows, and seamless experiences—all backed by insights. P.S. Are you leveraging data in your design process?

🚀 The ROI of Investing in User Experience (UX) 🚀 According to Forrester Research, for every $1 invested in UX, companies see an average return of $100—an incredible 9,900% ROI. But why is this? 🤔 When companies focus on UX, they're doing more than just making their products look good. They’re creating experiences that: 1️⃣ Increase Customer Satisfaction - By understanding and anticipating user needs, companies create products that satisfy deeply, fostering loyalty and repeat business. 2️⃣ Boost Efficiency - Good UX streamlines processes, reduces friction, and cuts down the time users spend navigating, leading to less frustration and more action. 3️⃣ Drive Sales - Users are more likely to convert when their journey is intuitive, easy, and enjoyable. 4️⃣ Enhance Brand Reputation - Companies with a strong UX reputation are seen as leaders in quality and innovation, attracting more customers. A real-world example of this impact is IBM's UX Investment Transformation. IBM invested heavily in UX, hiring hundreds of designers and implementing a design thinking approach across teams. As a result, they reported a 301% ROI from UX-focused projects, saving $20 million in development costs by streamlining workflows, cutting unnecessary steps, and reducing development time. This transformation boosted not only IBM's efficiency but also customer satisfaction and loyalty. With a more intuitive design, IBM improved customer engagement, reduced support costs, and saw a significant increase in product success rates. I was reminded of this when reading about ROI investment insights in Confident UX by Adrian Bilan. Bilan emphasizes how confidence in UX investments comes from understanding how small adjustments can create outsized value. He illustrates that when teams fully commit to UX, they generate trust and satisfaction that resonates far beyond the initial interaction, increasing customer loyalty and reducing churn. These examples show that thoughtful UX investments don’t just pay off—they reshape relationships with customers and drive significant financial gains. In today’s market, UX is no longer optional; it’s a competitive advantage that enables companies to thrive. 💼🌟 Next time you interact with a service or product that stands out from the rest, remember there’s a bigger story behind it—a vision, in-depth user research, and a whole lot of effort that brought this incredible experience to life. #UserExperience #UXDesign #BusinessGrowth #ForresterResearch #ROI #CustomerSuccess #IBM #DesignThinking #CustomerExperience #ConfidentUX #AdrianBilan
