India is gearing up to launch its first fully indigenous paracetamol in 2025, developed by CSIR-NCL and Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals. Here’s what makes it special: Same drug, smarter process: While the drug remains the same, CSIR's cutting-edge technology makes its production cheaper, faster, and more eco-friendly. Cost-effective & safer: The process replaces acetic anhydride, a restricted chemical, with a safer alternative — cutting costs by 15-20% and easing compliance. Superior quality: A continuous production method ensures better consistency and less waste compared to traditional batch processing. Made-in-India edge: With China leading global paracetamol production, this innovation strengthens India’s self-reliance and reduces import dependency. This isn’t just about making paracetamol; it’s about transforming how essential drugs are made sustainably. With two companies already onboard, India is taking a bold step toward becoming a pharmaceutical leader by 2047. What are your thoughts on this milestone in healthcare innovation? Let us know in the comments! #MadeinIndia #CSIR #AtmanirbharBharat [CSIR, Paracetamol, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Made in India, Pharma]

Really appreciate the efforts of the team and thank you for sharing this info The Better India. However it would have been better if the post contained a little more information. To my knowledge Paracetamol is a common / generic medicine name that is sold under different brand names and is already an affordable medicine for common ailments like general fever and pain. What is the difference between the existing one and the newer one? Does it have a different composition and hence a different generic name? If yes, it would not be right to use "Paracetamol" here and would be better to replace it with more common name like "new fever and /or pain medicine" or to be more precise in medical terms: new Analgesic / Antipyretic. What is difference between the efficacy of both?

Thanks for sharing however whole world including India depends upon China for Key starting material used in Paracetamol. So if it’s indeed completely “Made-in-India” hoping that it’s key ingredients also India made to reduce dependency on China. More details will be helpful.

Paracetamol production in India began in the late 1960s. Initially, the domestic consumption was quite low, around 700-800 tonnes per annum until the late 1970s. Over the years, the production capacity and consumption of paracetamol in India have grown significantly. By the early 1990s, the domestic production had increased to approximately 10,400 tonnes per annum. The Indian pharmaceutical industry has since become a major player in the global market, with paracetamol being one of the widely produced and consumed drugs. The development of made-in-India paracetamol is considered a significant achievement for the industry.

Indian pharma industry should aim for local manufacturing of all common and essential OTC medicines For the next 10 years the industry should get benefits in proportion to the actual cost reduction they have achieved for the Indian consumers This will actually reduce the cost of all essential medicines.

What do you mean by more effective. Is it a new compound?.is it a variant. It’s the same chemical but different isomer?

First of all the statement first of its kind is mis leading since there are many api manufacturers in India who produce para secondly the firm is claiming more effective is just marketing gemic how a chemical entity can be more effective than the present one unless you have some novel form whose petient safety need to be established like nano form or isomer which does not looks to be possible in case of para due to commercial aspects hope it is safe to indian patients since regulations are very weak in India

Home grown and made is cherishable but marketing style that rises the cost is painful... 👍🇮🇳

Congratulations to the team. The shift to continuous production is a major innovation in drug manufacturing! This method not only enhances consistency and quality but also minimizes waste, setting a new standard for efficiency and sustainability in pharma.

What post says is that they developed new synthesis route for Paracetamol that is more convenient and eco-friendly but ultimately they are making Paracetamol, right?? Then how it can be more effective than existing one? Are they developed new formulation of Paracetamol? No doubts, it can be more cheaper by achieving more simple synthesis route but existing Paracetamol itself available for reasonable price.
