  • For the past decade, Auckland's beloved Satya South Indian Restaurant has been spreading holiday cheer with a heartwarming tradition: a free Christmas Day feast for the entire community. It all began back in 1999 when Swamy along with his wife Padmaja Akuthota first opened Satya, introducing the authentic tastes of Southern India to Auckland. Over the years, their dream evolved into something far more meaningful, providing a sanctuary for those seeking food, fellowship, and a sense of belonging during the holiday season. This Christmas, for the 14th year running, the family is once again inviting the community to join them for a free Christmas lunch at two Satya locations in Auckland. Last year, Satya served over 600 people, creating a truly special atmosphere. Despite facing financial challenges post-COVID, they remains committed to giving back. "We were taught by our family to support the community that supports us," Samrudh, Akuthota' son explains. "And it's not just us – we have amazing suppliers who donate food and volunteer their time to make this free Christmas lunch possible." So, this Christmas, if you're looking for a delicious meal and a chance to connect with your community, head down to Satya South Indian Restaurant. They'll be serving up a heaping helping of holiday spirit, along with some of the best South Indian food in Auckland. #SatyaSouthIndianRestaurant #Auckland #FreeChristmasLunch #Hospitality #Christmas [New Zealand, Christmas, Auckland South Indian Restaurant, Free Christmas meal]

  • "What, according to you, is sexual violence?" Shivraj was asked one day. His response — “If a boy touches or grabs a girl, that is sexual violence.” “What if the boy passes comments at the girl?” “That’s okay since the boy is not touching her,” Shivraj was quick to respond. “When you tease a girl, how does she react?” “She walks with her head bent low.” After some thought, Shivraj rectified his answer, “Actually, I rarely see her again.” His own response alerted him to the ripple effect of his jeers. Shivraj realized that he had violated the girl’s right to mobility. • Tejaswin Shankar’s journey to becoming one of India’s most celebrated high jumpers began on the cricket fields of Delhi, where he dreamt of being a fast bowler. Little did he know that the long run-up he mastered for bowling would one day propel him to success in athletics. In 2013, he won a bronze medal at the Delhi state athletics championships, setting the stage for his future triumphs. Shankar’s big break came at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia, where he clinched gold. A year later, he followed it up with a silver at the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati, solidifying his reputation as a rising star. That same year, the 6-foot-4-inch athlete made history. At the Junior National Championships in Coimbatore, he shattered a 12-year-old national high jump record, clearing 2.18 meters. His ascent continued at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, where he showcased his talent with a commendable sixth-place finish. Off the track, Shankar excels in a different arena. As an auditor at Deloitte in the United States, he balances a demanding corporate role while pursuing his athletic dreams. “I am the guy who loves to do what the others don’t. I love breaking norms,” Tejaswin told Sportsstar. As Tejaswin Shankar continues to defy expectations and chase new records, his journey inspires countless others to dream big and work tirelessly. • Vishwanath has been living on the ghats of Varanasi for five years now, ever since his children abandoned him. Every day, early in the morning, he sets up his weighing scale, hoping someone will stop by and support him. But some days, no one does. In the freezing chill that envelops the ghats of Varanasi during winter, Vishwanath knows his fate is sealed. When we asked him if he'd like a blanket to keep warm, he laughed. "I wear the same clothes for weeks, and you’re asking me about a blanket! I don't think I will ever earn enough to buy one." This winter, let's give Vishwanath hope through a small donation, which will go towards gifting him a blanket made from upcycled clothes. Love the idea of helping the homeless while protecting the planet? Join us to #DonateABlanket and extend a warm hand to the homeless of Varanasi during these cold winter days. • A cardiac arrest at the age of 54 turned Xavier Fernandes' life around — but for the better. After years of working tirelessly in an oilfield in Oman, Xavier realised he needed to slow down. Back home with his family in Goa, he yearned for a simpler life. The beach, his refuge after exhausting days, became the place where he found his true purpose. On a rainy September day, Xavier stumbled upon a log washed ashore. "I picked it up and kept analysing it for some time. This is when I remembered how I used to carve craft items from wood in my childhood, just like my father," he says. That piece of driftwood marked the turning point in his life. With Christmas approaching, Xavier decided to channel his childhood skills into carving cribs out of wood. To his surprise, one thing led to another, and he managed to sell 80 units! Xavier uses driftwood — naturally matured wood from the sea — to craft these durable creations. "After taking them home, I dip them in clean water, peel their skin, and then keep them in the sunlight to dry. Around October, I start carving crafts from wood. Later, I varnish and polish the wood to give it a glossy look and protect it from scratches," Xavier explains. Once complete, the cribs are decorated with intricate driftwood crafts. These handcrafted cribs offered a unique alternative to traditional Christmas gifts like cakes and sweets. Today, Xavier dedicates up to 12 hours a day to his craft. His artwork has travelled far, reaching homes in Mumbai, Canada, and even the United Kingdom! • Neeraj Chopra’s story isn’t just about medals or records — it’s about a dream that started in the fields of Khandra, Panipat, and grew into something the world couldn’t ignore. Born into a farming family, Neeraj didn’t have much, but he had a spark. What started as a young boy's effort to combat obesity turned into a relentless pursuit of excellence in athletics. His first encounter with a javelin at the Shivaji Stadium in Panipat ignited a passion that would redefine India's presence on the global sporting stage. “You don’t need to have the most fancy facilities to train in. Wherever you are, whatever facility you have, just keep training and keep at it,” Neeraj once said in an interview with Indian Express. Despite limited resources, he honed his skills through sheer determination and discipline. “There are no shortcuts to success, as they say. So, keep the grind, keep at it, and put in the hard work,” he added. By 2024, Neeraj had become a two-time Olympian, dominating the international javelin scene with medals in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League. Today, we celebrate not only his incredible milestones but also the relentless spirit that continues to inspire millions. Happy Birthday, Champ! Thank you for making India proud! 💙 #HappyBirthdayNeerajChopra #Olympics #NeerajChopra #JavelinThrow #Inspiration [Happy Birthday Neeraj Chopra, javelin throw]
