No doom scrolling for job listings No applying for jobs No feeling envy about people who’ve landed jobs No feeling fear about all the other people who’ve lost jobs No paying attention to people who tell you that this is a terrible job market No transactional networking No counting the months you've been out of a job Yes to being hopeful Yes to shutting down your inner critic Yes to taking a worry weekend off Yes to enjoying your family, friends and a good barbecue You’ve earned it! Don't be a hero in your job search. A hero wants to do everything and save everyone. They think they're the solution to every problem, even if they end up making a bigger mess. That's why villains always force them to choose (and they never can). A lot of job seekers struggle because they want to be a hero! They want to do everything for every employer and be the solution to every problem. They say things like: - I haven't decided what to do next, so I want one résumé that works for different types of jobs. - My skills speak for themselves, so I'll just apply to any job I think I could do. - Every [insert title] job is the same, so I don't need to customize my résumé. But you can't be everything, everywhere, all at once. That's a movie title, not a job search strategy. You've got to find that sweet spot where your "particular set of skills" aligns with a specific need. My advice: - Set a clear goal. - Map out a plan. - Follow it. If you change your mind, change your approach, too! Your job search doesn't need heroics. It needs focus. #jobsearch #jobseekers #focus

Reframe your focus during your job search. Don't just ask yourself "How can I find a job?" Reframe your thinking to "How can I make myself hirable?" This forces you to focus on things you can control that will help you land your next job.
