🌟 What an incredible event we had yesterday on navigating "The Medical Device Road-to-Market"! 🌟 A huge thank you to our distinguished speakers from Lymphatica Medtech (Marco Pisano), Euresearch (Irina Sakharova Quitt), Swiss Medtech association (Daniel Delfosse), and F+R services (Mayella Favre) for sharing their invaluable insights! 👏 Here are some personal takeway from the event: 1. Financing Clinical Studies: It's essential to target a large addressable market (>500M USD/year) and gather support from clinical communities and strategic partners. Beyond venture capital, Horizon Europe funding can significantly aid in financing these studies. 2. Regulatory Challenges: The phrase "US innovates," "Asia manufactures," and "EU regulates" highlights the unique landscape. However, EU regulations introduce significant uncertainties regarding time and cost. EU regulators need to understand that patient safety is not just about product safety but encompasses product safety, availability, and innovation! 3. Achieving Reimbursement: Gaining CE certification is just the beginning. The next phase—securing reimbursement—requires navigating a complex process involving a different set of stakeholders. So bringing a medical device to market is a long and challenging journey that demands extensive planning and the engagement of a diverse range of stakeholders at various stages. The event truly underscored that the success of innovation extends well beyond mere technological advancements. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success. Looking forward to more such enriching sessions in the future! #Medtech #Innovation #RoadtoMarket #MedicalDevices #VDtech Innovaud

Was honored to Co-Chair the #MedTech session at last week Biomed Israel 2024 with Eyal Lifschitz. The key note speaker was the amazing Jon Salvenson , Vice Chair at Piper Sandler, probably the most active MedTech advisory firm in the world. We had talked about the the latest trends in the investment and M&A landscape in our space which seems consistent from a number of deals, but has completely shift from a buyer mix perspective . We also talked about valuations , and while they are down from the last 3 years high of 10- 15X on F revenue , they are still 50% above historical average of 5X. We focused on the importance of MedTech companies to design, prepare and execute on early commercialization and reach those initial ~$20M in revenue run-rate with consistent mid double digit annual growth. Jon shared an amazing fact - over the last 10 years, only 10% - 15% of the companies each year, were acquired at pre-revenue stage, and of those, most were in the Cardio Vascular space. I talked about the reasons behind this and the recognition that even in Israel, where pre-revenue deal used to dominated, the new reality is more aligned with the global numbers. We shared the MedTech Commercialization Institute program that support those companies that recognize this trend and willing to invest in being ready to penetrate the US market. Then we heard from the CEOs of several companies that underwent commercial strategy turnaround such as BrainsWay and Biobeat. Wanted to thank the organizers Ruti Alon and Nissim Darvish MD, DSc for hosting us and Amit Talia Alfasi for coordinating. After #AusMedtech2024, what's next for our sector? The Australian medical technology ecosystem is flourishing, covering nearly 600 companies and boasting the highest rate of growth in life sciences according to AusBiotech research. But that doesn't mean the work is over – one of the major takeaways from AusMedtech 2024 is that the medtech innovation system is disconnected and fragmented. A national approach to medtech that pools resources and speaks in a single voice to government is a top priority, helping connect people and facilities to enable innovation across the sector. As a voice to industry, the VMH has a role to play in this too, collaborating with our colleagues at AusBiotech, the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), ANDHealth, The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF), the Medical Device Partnering Program, and BioMelbourne Network to help unify the sector. We already have the infrastructure, skills, technical expertise, and training resources necessary to accelerate medtech in Australia, it's just about getting it into the right hands. The VMH is helping to bridge this gap through our Navigator initiative, connecting government, academia, and businesses to better make use of our state’s amazing medtech capabilities.
