Coming soon: 2021, DRC Romanee-Conti Grand Cru. Situated on a gentle incline at 261 meters above sea level, on highly fractured soil, lies what is arguably Burgundy’s greatest vineyard, producing 'the most celebrated and expensive red wine in the world, with reserves of flavor beyond imagination.' While no wine is magnificent in every vintage, Romanée-Conti comes remarkably close. Understated and restrained yet austere in its youth, Romanée-Conti integrates the finest qualities of other grand crus, such as the refinement of Romanée-Saint-Vivant and the linearity of La Tâche

Live and online wine auctions achieved an annual revenue total of $524 million in 2022 with the top five houses collectively achieving 90 percent of the year’s annual figure. Unlike first hand wine auctions where wineries sell their own wine, second hand wine auctions tend to be where most of the excitement resides Live auction events held by major wine auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s showcase the world’s most-prized wines while charity auctions are much more unpredictable as the bidders are often motivated by supporting a worthy cause. Online auctions take place via a website or app and usually include more lots than do live auctions. Internet auctions usually last for one to two weeks. Online auction is much more convenient as most sites allow you to enter a maximum bid, and then automatically increase your bid by the minimum increment but the most high end wines are rarely found here. Counterfeit experts report seeing fake wines for sale across nearly every type of auction. This is somewhat mitigated by auction houses employing experts to check the condition and provenance of the bottles. Nevertheless, great care must be taken for purchasing investment grade wine. . The highest-valued wines of the sale, however, hail from France, with a “rare full case” of La Tâche 1990 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leading the auction with a price estimate of US$42,000-US$65,000. The lot includes two original six-bottle wooden cases with consecutive bottle numbers. Other highlights include seven bottles of DRC La Tâche 1983 (estimate: US$14,000-US$19,000), five bottles of DRC Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1990 (estimate: US$9,000-US$14,000), and two bottles of Chambertin 1991 from Domaine Armand Rousseau (estimate: US$14,000-US$19,000), which Munro says is particularly rare, as only a couple of barrels were produced. https://lnkd.in/gBiaH8Rx

Today is Global Champagne🍾 day . But what is the chemistry and history of Champagne.🍾 The perfection of the method that removes the unattractive clouds which had long bespoiled fizzy wine is widely credited, rightly or wrongly, to a monk and cellar master at the Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers, one Dom Pérignon (1638-1715). It was at this Abbey near Rheims in France that a veritable revolution would occur, which transformed the region's fortunes and changed forever the production and popularity of sparkling wine. Champagne was born. After the death of Louis XIV of France in 1715, the court of the Duke of Orléans, Philippe II, made the sparkling version of champagne the drink of choice among the French aristocracy. During the 19th century, the modern champagne industry began to take shape. This period saw the establishment of several of today’s famous champagne houses, including Krug, Pommery, and Bollinger. #france #chemistry #champagne #biochemistry #holidays #christmas2022 #christmas #sciencecommunication #science #wineindustry #winetasting #foodandbeverageindustry #foodbusiness #foodscience #fridaymood #friday #happyfriday #infographic via Compound Interest | Chemistry infographics
