This needs to be shut down immediately. Stop bulldozing the battlefields, and only thinking of money. We need to teach our youth (and many adults) about history, and if it hurts, the more the better. You are less likely to make decisions that will lead to what happened in the past. Leave the battlefields. Find another place to build, or better yet, renovate some of the older buildings (that still have class), and reuse that land.

The Wilderness battlefield is threatened by development. Critics of battlefield preservation say that it stands in the way of progress — by which they mean the bulldozer — and that we cannot live in the past. They fail to grasp that history lives in the present, in how we understand ourselves and our own time. Our identity is tied together by ideas and the historical experiences that shaped them. There is a little bit of Lexington Green and Antietam and the Wilderness in each of us, and preserving them offers all of us opportunities to reflect on our relationship to the ideas, people, and events that fill them with meaning. On a battlefield history is not an abstraction. When a battlefield is gone — buried under asphalt and concrete or compromised by traffic and strip shopping centers, warehouses, or data centers — our ability to understand ourselves is diminished.

We had the pleasure of being part of a phenomenal roundtable session with CRE industry experts and leaders this past week in Chicago. Key Takeaways: 1. Spring is approaching fast, and so is the breeding season for gulls. As a result, we are receiving more calls about gulls congregating on roof areas and causing disturbances to businesses. Did you know that seabird courtship is a complex ritual that involves courtship, copulation, nest-building, egg-laying, and chick-rearing until fledging? While gulls are protected, it is possible to deter them before they build a nest. Normally, they will move to a similar area nearby if excluded from their preferred roost. In the past, we have successfully encouraged gulls to leave by flying a female Harris Hawk, around the area regularly. If you are experiencing similar issues, consider #birdcontrol methods like Harris Hawks and other #urbanbirdcontrol techniques to deter gulls from disturbing your business.
