Yesterday two of my consult calls shared that they didn’t know that Developer Relations was a thing. When you’re in it, in the depth of the industry and knowledge, it’s easy to think everyone knows what you do. I sort of fell into this bucket a little, but I should have known better. This means I may need to change my messaging and approach if I plan to target these prospects. I can’t use the term DevRel until I’ve introduced it first. Do you listen to your developer customers to know that your messaging or approach needs to shift?
I bet they know it's a thing now.
Yea after we’ve had our initial chat I typically whip up a 1-page slide that covers everything I heard and everything they needed clarified. It keeps the flow of the initial call moving if someone isn’t quite on the same page since they know there’s a doc coming after the call to clarify.
I get asked about devrel a good amount! Easy to get comfy in our relative niche.

7moI just had a prospect ask me about that too in a conversation last week. It seems like there's a lot of demand-gen opportunity for somebody or somebodies to educate the market on terms like DevRel and developer advocacy while shaping their messaging.
