On May 1st 2023, we announced that Handicaddie had raised investment. This changed the trajectory of my life no doubt. Before this, I had worked a variety of different jobs to support working on the business nights and weekends for a few years prior to this. I'm sure many folks are in the position now of looking to raise funding for their start-up( a fun time!) So, I thought I'd make a video explaining step-by-step on how I did it for mine, and the many mistakes I made along the way. To pre-face this, we did not raise a Series A type round. This was a humble seed to bring our team full time. I realise that I often post a lot about the different aspects of a fundraising strategy; how to prepare, how to run a funding campaign, and where to find investors, but I rarely post about the wonderful founders I work with on a weekly basis, who have graduated Funding Accelerator and raised equity investment! So, today’s spotlight is on Yvonne B. founder of e-Spaces, a software tool offering teachers automated assessments. Yvonne joined Funding Accelerator, because (in her own words): “I had some knowledge gaps and needed help to prepare myself for speaking to investors. What could a national collaborative enterprise look like to advance the development and deployment of digital infrastructure by bringing public, private and non-profit organizations together? What ACTIONS would that enterprise take in the first 2 years? How would it be funded? Those questions and more were tackled at the Transportation Research Board #ARTS24 Conference Roadway Digital Infrastructure (RDI) workshop. I appreciated the opportunity to facilitate the discussion. Most groups recognized the need for federal "seed" money to ignite the effort, transitioning to a public private partnership. Several groups referenced the need for data exchanges/inventories, "co-creation" or collaboration to create new models, and - my personal favorite - the urgent need for URGENCY. Enjoyed sketching out concepts with Larkin-Thomason Tracy Laurie Matkowski, PMP and Ashley Simmons. As always, Tracy underscored the importance of focusing on a few actions to jump-start the effort, demonstrate progress and build momentum. Our ideas are circled below - Let's go!
