This month, one of the key topics we are concentrating on is Surfing. Surfing has been growing in popularity in recent years and, with Scotland’s beautiful coastline, there are plenty of amazing spots to take part in the sport. Surfing is a thrilling sport with a myriad of benefits but there are several dangers and risks that you need to be aware of before catching any waves. The temperature of the sea in Scotland is significantly colder than the surfing sites of Hawaii and the Gold Coast, and this increases the risk of cold water shock all year round. Moreover, there are rip currents that can result in disorientation and risk of being pulled out further into sea. Water Safety Scotland (WSS) and the Scottish Surfing Federation have produced a specific Water Safety Code for Surfing and a Surfing Etiquette. Ensure you read through both prior to heading out on your board. You can access these resources through the following link: https://lnkd.in/eNRxu5_g As always, the code recommends that before any activity or going near water, you should: Stop and Think, Spot the Dangers Stay Together, Stay Close In an Emergency, Call 999 Remember, a safe surf is a stoke surf!

Surfing is Dead We’ve all seen the headlines. The mood has been soured. And the surf industry is certainly going through… some things. However, when I look around, I see a sport/lifestyle/hobby - whatever you’d like to call it - thriving. Please consider: - The 2023 SFIA Report determined that Surfing is the fastest-growing water sport in America. - Surfing is months away from its 2nd showing as a provisional Olympic sport for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. - Surfing has also been confirmed as an “official” sport for the 2028 Olympics in LA. - Women’s performances are going through the roof! - There are 100s of wave pools in various stages of development, transcending geographical boundaries and making surfing more accessible to enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels (which will only compound bullet point 1 above). And probably the least fun fact of all - surf spots are more crowded than ever. So, the power structure within the industry can change, the media can change, and the events and tours can change, but surfing is thriving - and there is a ton of potential and opportunity on the horizon. Surfing is far from dead - the future of surfing is bright! Until then, go surfing!

Standing Up for Surfing Freedom in Hong Kong 🌊🏄♂️ At Global Surf Industries, we believe in the transformative power of surfing. It’s more than a sport—it’s a way of life that connects people to the ocean, to nature, and to a global community. That's why we are standing with the surfers of Hong Kong in the face of the government's unexpected surfing ban. This decision is impacting local surfers who wait for this time of year. To show our support, Global Surf Industries is committed to covering any fines imposed on surfers for doing what they love — surfing on one of our boards. We believe in the right to ride the waves, and we won’t let a misguided policy stop that. The waves are there to be ridden. #Surfing #FreedomToSurf #GlobalSurfIndustries #StandWithSurfers #HongKong #SurfCulture #OceanConservation #lifeisbetterwhenyousurf https://lnkd.in/ghDADC3T
