I also think it’s important for teachers to talk about their own reading with students as well and engage in conversations with their students about the texts. I am reading multiple books to catch up with the book clubs that students are reading and only one group actually gave me information about the book that made me want to read it. Now I am reading these books and I am HOOKED on them. So I know when I start talking to students about it, knowing more context, it will make them feel like what they are reading matters a little more and they will buy in. That is how it starts. Read with them, talk with them, and share your honest opinions on it all. Then take student suggestions for books. Take them seriously. Read them, and suggest your own books. #ela #education #k12education #schools #reading
